viewers a larger sense of submersion into the song they are
listening to.
High angle establishing shots to give the viewers a sense of the
environment the dance track is filmed in.
Some close up shots of people briefly focussing on their
individual roles in the dance track video.
Fast high angle and low angle shots also in time with the beat to
further add to the sense of a dance/club like environment.
Mid shots of people dancing in time with the beat accompanied
by the other shots to further add this sense of a dance
environment.
3. Location/Environment
Dance track videos are typically conveyed to be in lively atmospheres
with many things going on at once.
For example, dance track videos may be filmed in clubs for that further
submersion that the viewers want whilst listening to the song.
Usually important that the conveyed location matches the type of song,
for example a dance genre song would typically be filmed in a club to
accompany the audio.
Sometimes to add a further sense of verisimilitude for the audience, a
dance genre video may be filmed at a house party, also including the
typical conventions of people having a good time partying lively.
Locations with lots of lighting and vibrant colours are typical
conventions of a dance genre video to further accompany the dance
audio, and that sense of liveliness and the partying feel good
atmosphere.
4. Editing
Typical editing techniques used to add to the conventions of a dance
genre pop video may include fast cut shots, to view different angles and
areas of the video.
The use of fast cut shots as mentioned before also accompanies that
fast vibrant feel good feeling of a typical dance environment, to make
the audience feel more submersed into the video.
The use of editing techniques to help accompany the audio of the video
are designed to almost give the audience a sense of euphoria, and
make them want to dance in an environment similarly depicted in the
video.
Sometimes in dance videos slow motion editing is used to contrast the
fast audio beat of the video. This is useful in some cases however as
due to the time being stretched for a longer period of time, it allows the
audience to fully focus on certain aspects purposely designed to be
mainly focussed on. This further submerses the audience into the
dance environment.
5. How Our Video Matches The
Typical Conventions Of A Pop
Video In our personal video we are using a variety of shots including
fast cut shots in time with the beat accompanied with high
angle, low angle, mid shots and establishing shots to fully
exaggerate the dance feel we are trying to convey.
The locations we are using to film in are Brighton Pier, house
parties to add a sense of verisimilitude that the audience can
relate to, as well as in a limo, to convey the night life and typical
dance genre environment.
Our editing will consist of a variety of different shots all cut in
time of the beat, to focus on all angles of the dance
environment we are trying to convey. We will also be using slow
motion to fully capture certain aspects that we want the
audience to mainly focus on, also to further submerse the
audience into the video to give them a sense of euphoria and
that feel good dance feeling.
