3. INTRODUCTION:
Young girls between the ages of 15 and 18 are held to
unrealistic beauty standards, which can negatively
impact their mental and self-esteem. A biased view
of feminine qualities is caused by the media, peers,
and societal expectations reinforcing these norms.
(Kaponer, 2021)
6. IMPACT OF THE MEDIA
(2018)
The ideal of beauty that young girls have is greatly
influenced by the media. Ads, movies, and social
media platforms that present a perfect and
unachievable beauty are some of the sources of poor
self-worth and a negative body image.
7. PEER INFLUENCE
Friends can reinforce unrealistic beauty
standards by comparing and criticizing each
other. The need to fit in and receive
acceptance from peers can lead to negative
behaviors and self-criticism, which intensifies
the impact on girls' self-perception.
(2021)
8. Girls who get instruction on media literacy, accepting who they are,
and accepting different meanings of beauty will be more equipped to
challenge unrealistic beauty standards. Girls may develop a more
healthy relationship with their attractiveness by promoting a positive
and inclusive view of femininity.
EMPOWERMENT THROUGH EDUCATION
10. SOCIAL PRESSURE
Social pressure to live up to idealized beauty standards comes from cultural
expectations and traditions. Diverse concepts of beauty and self-acceptance
must be encouraged because this pressure can lead to anxiety and low self-
esteem. It's critical to acknowledge how societal pressure affects people and to
provide an environment that values originality and distinctiveness. By doing this,
we can lessen the detrimental impacts of society's ideals of beauty and assist
people in feeling more at ease in their skin.
11. MENTAL HEALTH IMPACTS
Adolescent females who relentlessly strive for
unachievable beauty standards may experience
eating problems, anxiety, and sadness. These mental
health issues result from the pressure to live up to a
stereotype of what it means to be a woman.
