At SERUDS Home for the Aged, we have adopted good practices in order to provide a healthy, productive and participatory life to the elderly women residents. There is space for pooja for daily prayers and all major festivals are celebrated. 1. Elderly Homes for Donation
KummariLakshmamma : My name is Kummari Lakshmamma . I got married at the age of
twenty. My village name is Roddipalle , Kurnool district. We have four sons and one daughter.
My husband and I used to work on a farm in our village and make a living.
We used to take our eldest son to the farm and he would play, while we were working. One
day, a tragedy happened; he was bitten by a snake while playing and died on the way to the
hospital. After four years, my third son also died in a road accident. My husband bought a
three acre farm with the money he earned from working on the farm. In due course, my two
sons were married. Four years later, my daughter also got married. I and my husband were
very happy with my sons and daughter and their spouses. One day my husband fell down when

2. he was working on the farm. In the hospital, Doctors did tests and said it was cancer. After five
years my husband died.
Two years after my husband died, my youngest son had a heart attack and died. Since then I
have been living with my youngest daughter-in-law [widowed] and children, but it has become
difficult to live on the earnings of the daughter-in-law. I do not have the energy to work and
earn and I have BP, I have diabetes and cannot see clearly. My youngest daughter -in law can
feed me but she does not have the money to spend on my health. Then my second son came
to me and said if I give transfer the farm to his name, he will look after me.
By the age of 66 and I came by myself to SERUDS Old Age Home. I am now 75 years old. It has
been 9 years since I was in the ashram. Occasionally my family comes here, to meet me. But
they never invited me to come home with them any day. It is hard for me to have to stay away
from my home, but the affection and love shown to me by those who are with me in this Old
Age Home has made them my family members. With my past experience, I am sure I cannot
live happily with my sons and daughter.
Raamulamma : Raamulamma has 3 sons and 1 daughter. Elder son died in an accident. Other
sons are into agriculture labourers. Daughter is married. After her son’s marriage, there were
some issues in their households and they all left her alone. She lost her husband who died of ill
health. Her neighbour brought her to our centre after going through her turmoil in her life. She
needs love, care and proper support to lead the rest of life happily.
Seruds is taking care of nutritious food thrice daily, accommodation, timely healthcare, clothes,
recreation like tv, radio, devotional music, etc. By providing her with these minimum basic
things, she is able to live with dignity and she feels grateful to Seruds for their support. In this
regard, she also needs your support and for her well-being so that she can lead the rest of her
healthy life happily.
