1. In whatways does my media
product use, develop or
challenge forms and conventions
of real media products?
2.
Front Cover Myfront cover has a masthead which is red
for the first letter and white for the other 3,
which means that the masthead doesn’t take
away from the focus on the cover model.
I added a box around this text
and the word essential in
order to show they are part of
the same cover line. I made
the ‘50’ bigger (it is twice the
size of the cover line text) and
a different colour so that it
stands out as a number
The main cover line is across
the cover model so that it
makes it obvious that they
are linked
The cover model is looking down
the lens of the camera which
means that he addressing the
audience directly
Also, the cover model is over the
top of the masthead which shows
that my magazine is well-known
and popular enough to have part
of its masthead obscured and still
be able to know it is Axis
Overall I feel that my front cover uses
conventions of real media products
because of the layout of cover lines and
the features of my front cover that I have
used. Therefore this means that when
someone sees the magazine they would
recognise it as being an Axis magazine.
3.
Contents PageMy contentspage has a contents
list down the side which details
what pages the main sections of
content are in the magazine, for
example my feature article is
listed at the top as on page 7
I have included a draw-in factor which
is that my magazine contains offers for
competitions that could get the
audience big prizes, which appeals to
them because they feel like they are
getting the chance to get something
worth a lot of money for free
The 13-point star in the corner
challenges normal conventions because
it isn’t a shape that would normally
appear in a music magazine. I felt that it
works because it looks like it’s
‘exploding’ onto the page which links in
with the rock sub-genre of my magazine.
I feel that hats are often used in
photography in music magazines but rarely
artists have hoods up. Therefore my
magazine is developing conventions of real
media products because it is obscuring
more of the artist’s features, as if they
have something to hide but the fact that
the audience knows already that the
magazine has got an exclusive interview
with them means that it could be revealed
White caption for photo tells the
audience who it is. This uses
conventions of real media products
such as Q magazine because they
also do this for most of the pictures
they include in their magazine
On my contents page there is also a secondary artist but I
think that this challenges conventions because he overlaps
on top of the image of the main artist

Feature ArticleOne imagetakes up the
whole of one page of the
double-page spread
which does meet forms of
real media products
because audiences want
to see who the article is
talking about just as much
as the article, and so they
take up roughly the same
amount of space
I have put one of his
other quotes next to the
big image of Louis
because it helps the
audience to make links to
him and understand how
he thinks straight away,
without even needing to
delve into the article
I have put a quote in the
middle of the text to split
it up a bit and not making
it so much of a text-heavy
page, for the audience it
makes the article look
more manageable to read
but not really any shorter
because there is little
blank space
I decided to put a sort of
cut-off section at the
bottom of the page,
which has its own
accompanying image, to
sum up who Louis is and
why the audience is
reading about him – his
new album.
