2. About Bed and Breakfast rooms
• The idea of Bed and Breakfast rooms was
mooted in 2005-06 while planning for the
upcoming Commonwealth Games 2010 in
Delhi.
• Through various surveys it was noted that
Delhi, the host country had a dearth of
hotel rooms that would be needed to
accommodate the players, support staff
and spectators. Thus, Govt of India thought
of dovetailing the concept of BnB which is
highly popular in European countries into
India.
• The scheme of Bed and Breakfast (BnB)
rooms was borne out of the idea to provide
a clean and affordable place for foreigners
and domestic tourists alike including an
opportunity for foreign tourists to stay with
an Indian family to experience Indian
customs and traditions and relish authentic
Indian cuisine.
Procedure to register BnB
1. National Government/ State government
provides a checklist of amenities required for a
Bed and Breakfast.
2. The aspiring BnB owner submits an application
form to the state / national tourism board while
testifying the presence of said amenities.
3. A regional classification committee assesses the
presence and quality of facilities and services
offered at the premises.
4. Those BnB’s that comply with facilities are given
Gold/Silver category license for 2 years.
5. Rectifications will have to be complied within
stipulated time.
