3. Transmission Media
It is a pathway that carries information from sender to receiver.
It is located below the physical layer.
We use different types of cables to transmit data.
5. Guided Media
It is a wired transmission
It is provide a conduit for transmission of data
It include twisted pair cable, coxial cable, fibre optic cable.
6. Twisted pair cable
It consist of two conductors.
One wire is used to carry signal to receiver.
Second wire is used as a ground reference.
It has its own plastic insulation.
7. Unshielded Twisted Pair Cables (UTP) :
These are a pair of two insulated copper wires twisted together without any other insulation
or shielding and hence are called unshielded twisted pair cables.
Shielded Twisted Pair Cables (STP) :
These types of cables have extra insulation or protective covering over the conductors in the
form of a copper braid covering
8. Coaxial Cable
It is a type of shielded and insulated copper cable.
It carries signal of high frequency than twisted pair cable.
9. Fiber Optic Cable
It transfer data signals in the form of light
It travel hundreds of miles significantly faster than those used in traditional electrical
cables.
10. Unguided Media
It is a Wireless media
No physical medium is required for the transmission
The signal is broadcasted through air
It include radio waves, microwaves etc.
11. Radio Waves
It is a wireless transmission of sound messages, or information.
It include cordless telephones, cell phones and cell phone towers
12. Microwaves
It is the transmission of information by electromagnetic waves .
It include a transmitter, a receiver, transmission lines, and antennas.
