2. • This documentary was mainly based around a
family type of theme
• It was a mixed documentary as it had archive
material, interviews and narration.
• Finally, it had a closed, linear, single strand
narrative structure.
3. Graphics
• There was hardly any use of graphics within
this documentary, and when it was used, it
was very simple and in a plain white font for
example the title at the start of the
documentary. Graphics were also used at one
other point in the documentary when they
were showing the location.
4. Archive Material
• Most of the archive material used was baby
pictures however there were some pictures of
a newspaper article on his brothers crime and
the prison website.
5. Mise en Scene
• The mise en scene was very simple like the
editing used.
• It was filmed in normal places like a
bedroom/car etc.
6. Camera
• A wide range of different shots were used in
this documentary however the tracking shot
was probably used the most as there was a
handheld camera following all of the action.
• The interviews had the normal conventional
framing – to the left/right with name and
relevance to topic underneath. They were also
usually in a mid shot.
7. Editing
• The only editing that was really used
throughout the whole of the documentary
was simple cuts. This was used to make sure
the audience feels realism in it and not to
distract their attention from the story.
8. Sound
• Narration and background music was used in
the documentary.
• The background music was quite sad,
instrumental music so that we could
empathise with the characters and to add
emotion.
