iMMAP (Information Management and Mine Action Program)

iMMAP is a multinational NGO works for the Humanitarian Informatics, Training, Information
Management, GIS (geographic information system), Disaster Management, Coordination,
Communications & Reporting, and Information Analysis

The iMMAP team was formed in late-1998 to lead the first internationally-coordinated effort to combine
information management, sociology and Geographic Information Systems technology to address the
needs of disaster management and development partners. Since then, iMMAP has been a pioneering
humanitarian organization in leading the way toward the effective use of information management
practices and principles in service to the world’s most susceptible populations.

Enhanced approaches and new solutions are required to address a range of problems challenging
humanitarian responders in disaster risk reduction and management. IMMAP’s mission is to be the first
port of call for Information and Knowledge Management expertise within the humanitarian community.
iMMAP aims to improve the suffering of victims of natural and disasters by providing decision-support
services to national and international authorities and humanitarian agencies through the management
of reliable, timely and appropriate strategic and geographic information.

iMMAP has provided relief and development services in more than 40 countries and is currently working
in ten countries, including Iraq, Afghanistan, Colombia, and Georgia to address post-conflict challenges.
iMMAP also extends its services to public sector organizations for building information management
capacity in natural and manmade disaster mitigation, preparedness, and management in countries that
include Kenya, Thailand, and Pakistan.

iMMAP in Pakistan

The 2010 Pakistan floods began in July 2010 following heavy monsoon rains in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,
Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan provinces of Pakistan and affected the Indus River. The floods affected 78
districts out of a total of 121 districts as well as the FATA and AJK administrative units in Pakistan, and
more than 18 million people 1/10 of Pakistan’s population – destructive villages from the Himalayas to
the Arabian Sea. More than 1,989 people lost their lives, and at least 1.7 million homes have been
damaged or destroyed with enormous loss of livelihood. The number of individuals affected by the
flooding exceeds the combined total of individuals affected by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, the 2005
Kashmir earthquake and the 2010 Haiti earthquake.

iMMAP aims to provide all humanitarian responders with effective methods for reliably capturing,
reporting, sharing, and analyzing information concerning the humanitarian situation according to
baseline indicators and population needs. This crucial Humanitarian Information Management (HIM)
support is provided via an integrated approach through the Pakistan National Disaster Management
Authority (NDMA).

During the ongoing crisis in Pakistan, iMMAP:
Established office at National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) of Pakistan located at
        Prime Minister’s Secretariat.
        Developed the Information Management Strategy and is developing the accompanying
        Information Management Framework for the Disaster Management Authority.
        Deployed international and national staff to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority
        (PDMA) in Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta.
        Is providing mapping, reporting and information analysis support to the NDMA and PDMAs.
        Co-developed the Single Reporting Format (SRF) for the NDMA and broader humanitarian
        community that serves as a common web platform for all Implementing Partners (IPs) to report
        on their humanitarian activities and enables better coordination of humanitarian assistance in
        Pakistan.
        Provides on-going trainings in SRF to personnel from the UN, NGOs, Government – Line
        Ministries, Military, PDMAs and DDMAs.
        Provides crucial support to Population Census Organization of Pakistan (PCO) to digitize the
        Union Council (Admin Level 4) boundaries.

What are everyday policies and procedure of iMMAP?

Every organization has its own policies and procedure of everyday works and how the organization run
the particular works, therefore, the employees everyday policies and procedures are made that how
they work according to the organization policies and rules regulations. Thereafter, the iMMAP is an
international organization aim for Training, Information Management, GIS (geographic information
system), Disaster Management, Communications & Reporting, and Information Analysis which has its
own policies and procedure that need to be thought carefully to the employees. therefore they have to
follow these policies for accomplishment of their works or targets.

Work hours and flexibility of schedule:

iMMAP organization in Quetta has followed the international NGOs rule for working 8 hours a day and
in a month 21 working days and 2 days holiday Saturday and Sunday. The medical is also provided to
employees according to their sick days but not more than 22 days. Also an employee get 22days leave
form organization as personal leave in a year. The employee has to give application to his/her manager
before 2 days of vacation.

The policies for working started as usually at 9 o’clock till 5 o’clock times off. If the employee is on leave
then his coworker or peer has to cover his/her work during his/her vacations. and the managing director
is responsible for arrange the employees; therefore, the work must not be affected.

The employee can’t works at home if the work can be done at office therefore he is liable to work in the
working hours in the office 8 hours a day and 40 hours a day. If a Project has given to the employee
outside the office then it depends upon the worker or employee that how he/she works but before time
he/she has to submit the Report to the Department or Organization.
There is not any compensatory time in the late working; the employee is not paid for extra hours work.
but at field work, outside the organizations they can be compensate at 24hours a day about 95USD.if
organization arranges the flight, travel and house then the employee is paid 40USD for 24 hours a day.

Overtime

There is no any Overtime in the iMMAP organization at Quetta. But if any employee is in the field
performing his/her task for the organization then they will be paid 95USD a day. The specific employees
is paid for this who is allowed to go to field work.



Payday

In iMMAP organization at Quetta the employee get their salary or pay on the 28th date of the month the
amount is paid according to the employee’s grade and works. The pay amount is paid to employee by
their accounts at local Banks; money deposit by online from the standard chartered Bank of Pakistan.
The salary is paid monthly at the end of the month 28th.

Style of dress

 In iMMAP organization there is no obligation against the style of dress. It depends upon the employee
that what he has to wear but in the national and international conferences the employee must wear
jeans and T-Shirt.



Security

The needs for the security vary with the IMMAP organization. There are certain things of the
Organization that have to be protected: some of the security issue is faced by the Govt. by proving force
levies, police, crops in the field or visiting the high crime areas for us. For the protection of the Office we
appointed Security guards to maintain the security. All the Keys of Office building is belong to the
chowkidar he is mean of access to the Office.

Enhanced approaches and new solutions are required to address a range of problems challenging humanitarian responders in disaster risk reduction and management. IMMAP’s mission is to be the first port of call for Information and Knowledge Management expertise within the humanitarian community. iMMAP aims to improve the suffering of victims of natural and disasters by providing decision-support services to national and international authorities and humanitarian agencies through the management of reliable, timely and appropriate strategic and geographic information. iMMAP has provided relief and development services in more than 40 countries and is currently working in ten countries, including Iraq, Afghanistan, Colombia, and Georgia to address post-conflict challenges. iMMAP also extends its services to public sector organizations for building information management capacity in natural and manmade disaster mitigation, preparedness, and management in countries that include Kenya, Thailand, and Pakistan. iMMAP in Pakistan The 2010 Pakistan floods began in July 2010 following heavy monsoon rains in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh, Punjab and Balochistan provinces of Pakistan and affected the Indus River. The floods affected 78 districts out of a total of 121 districts as well as the FATA and AJK administrative units in Pakistan, and more than 18 million people 1/10 of Pakistan’s population – destructive villages from the Himalayas to the Arabian Sea. More than 1,989 people lost their lives, and at least 1.7 million homes have been damaged or destroyed with enormous loss of livelihood. The number of individuals affected by the flooding exceeds the combined total of individuals affected by the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, the 2005 Kashmir earthquake and the 2010 Haiti earthquake. iMMAP aims to provide all humanitarian responders with effective methods for reliably capturing, reporting, sharing, and analyzing information concerning the humanitarian situation according to baseline indicators and population needs. This crucial Humanitarian Information Management (HIM) support is provided via an integrated approach through the Pakistan National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). During the ongoing crisis in Pakistan, iMMAP:
  • 2. Established office at National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) of Pakistan located at Prime Minister’s Secretariat. Developed the Information Management Strategy and is developing the accompanying Information Management Framework for the Disaster Management Authority. Deployed international and national staff to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) in Karachi, Lahore, Peshawar and Quetta. Is providing mapping, reporting and information analysis support to the NDMA and PDMAs. Co-developed the Single Reporting Format (SRF) for the NDMA and broader humanitarian community that serves as a common web platform for all Implementing Partners (IPs) to report on their humanitarian activities and enables better coordination of humanitarian assistance in Pakistan. Provides on-going trainings in SRF to personnel from the UN, NGOs, Government – Line Ministries, Military, PDMAs and DDMAs. Provides crucial support to Population Census Organization of Pakistan (PCO) to digitize the Union Council (Admin Level 4) boundaries. What are everyday policies and procedure of iMMAP? Every organization has its own policies and procedure of everyday works and how the organization run the particular works, therefore, the employees everyday policies and procedures are made that how they work according to the organization policies and rules regulations. Thereafter, the iMMAP is an international organization aim for Training, Information Management, GIS (geographic information system), Disaster Management, Communications & Reporting, and Information Analysis which has its own policies and procedure that need to be thought carefully to the employees. therefore they have to follow these policies for accomplishment of their works or targets. Work hours and flexibility of schedule: iMMAP organization in Quetta has followed the international NGOs rule for working 8 hours a day and in a month 21 working days and 2 days holiday Saturday and Sunday. The medical is also provided to employees according to their sick days but not more than 22 days. Also an employee get 22days leave form organization as personal leave in a year. The employee has to give application to his/her manager before 2 days of vacation. The policies for working started as usually at 9 o’clock till 5 o’clock times off. If the employee is on leave then his coworker or peer has to cover his/her work during his/her vacations. and the managing director is responsible for arrange the employees; therefore, the work must not be affected. The employee can’t works at home if the work can be done at office therefore he is liable to work in the working hours in the office 8 hours a day and 40 hours a day. If a Project has given to the employee outside the office then it depends upon the worker or employee that how he/she works but before time he/she has to submit the Report to the Department or Organization.

There is not any compensatory time in the late working; the employee is not paid for extra hours work. but at field work, outside the organizations they can be compensate at 24hours a day about 95USD.if organization arranges the flight, travel and house then the employee is paid 40USD for 24 hours a day. Overtime There is no any Overtime in the iMMAP organization at Quetta. But if any employee is in the field performing his/her task for the organization then they will be paid 95USD a day. The specific employees is paid for this who is allowed to go to field work. Payday In iMMAP organization at Quetta the employee get their salary or pay on the 28th date of the month the amount is paid according to the employee’s grade and works. The pay amount is paid to employee by their accounts at local Banks; money deposit by online from the standard chartered Bank of Pakistan. The salary is paid monthly at the end of the month 28th. Style of dress In iMMAP organization there is no obligation against the style of dress. It depends upon the employee that what he has to wear but in the national and international conferences the employee must wear jeans and T-Shirt. Security The needs for the security vary with the IMMAP organization. There are certain things of the Organization that have to be protected: some of the security issue is faced by the Govt. by proving force levies, police, crops in the field or visiting the high crime areas for us.
