Why is this game important for this stage?
This particular game is important for this stage because:
This game incorporates the locomotor skills of early stage 1, including running, walking,
sitting and catching.
Students participate in regular physical activity through creative play and minor games
involving running/chasing. They practice body movement and control, demonstrating
different ways the body can move by composing and sequencing simple movement
patterns. It also incorporates the idea of spatial awareness, allowing the students to move
in a particular direction and in this case around the outside of the circle since all the
students are sitting in a circle, thus putting forward the importance of formations.
Game involves fun, running and chasing in a safe environment with every student
participating.
What are the PDHPE skills involved in this game? How?
COES1.1 Expresses feelings, needs and wants in appropriate ways. This is displayed
through the way the children respond to simple instructions and rules plays simple. This
is also shown by their attitudes and feelings towards the game.
INES1.3 Relates well to others in work and play situations. By working happily with
class peers, being involved in the game shown through the way they play the game such
as being energetic and enthusiastic.
MOES1.4 Demonstrates a general awareness of how basic movement skills apply in
play and other introductory experiences. This demonstrates ways in which the students
are aware of the different movements of the chaser and the person chased.
Equipment and Teaching cues:
Flag or any similar object (for example a shirt or a rag).
2. Name of the Game:Jumping in a Circle Stage:Stage 1
Explanation:
Students are asked to form circles in groups of 4 – 5. The teacher calls one of three different
colours. With every colour call, the students move one step in accordance with the colour signal.
For example blue means hopping one step with the right foot only, green means hopping with
two feet and yellow means hopping with the left foot only. With every call, students need to
move with the correct direction and if they make the wrong move they lose out and are out of the
competition. Game continues until one person is left in every circle. The remaining students form
a new circle and play again in the same way. The aim of the game is to relate colours and
numbers, hopping through various movements and follow instructions correctly to stay in the
game.
Why is this game important for this stage?
This particular game is important for this stage because:
The game involves both non-locomotor skills and locomotor skills with moving whole body and
body parts with hopping and leaping and since the students are required to change their
movement within a time period.
Students participate in minor games and sports since they complete simple movement
sequences that show an understanding of dynamics, spatial awareness and type of movement.
They participate in physical activities that promote enjoyment and safety and recognise the
importance of these for health and lifestyle balance.
What are the PDHPE skills involved in this game? How?
MOS1.4 Demonstrates maturing performance of basic movement and compositional
skills in a variety of predictable situations. This skill is involved in this game because
students hop on different body parts, e.g. balance on one foot or two feet and repeat
movement to form a sequence by hopping.
ALS1.6 Participates in physical activity, recognising that it can be both enjoyable
and important for health. Students are required to engage in a range of planned
activities, e.g. fundamental movement skills, favourite simple games, movement
exploration.
GYS1.10 Follows a simple sequence that links basic movement patterns. It takes
weight on different parts of the body, using one or two feet for support and performs
simple movement sequences involving hopping on one and two feet.

Why is this game important for this stage?
This particular game is important for this stage because:
Students apply, adapt and vary movement skills in games and sports. They understand the
elements of movement and compose and perform movement sequences with control and
coordination in various contexts. They are involved in running and dodging.
Students demonstrate teamwork, tactics and strategies when participating in team games.
They demonstrate proficiency in the fundamental movement skills of running, catching
and dodging other players in team games. Students participate in a range of moderate to
vigorous physical activities and apply movement skills with increased confidence and
precision.
They investigate the effects of physical activity on health and monitor and evaluate
physical activity levels.

skills in group activities by helping each member out in their teams through the skill of
communicating with one another, e.g. games which involve groups and teams that work
with each other to reach their goal.’
MOS3.4 Refines and applies movement skills creatively to a variety of challenging
Situations. This particular skill is involved in this game as it varies running patterns to
cater for sprinting, distance running, side stepping, dodging and defensive marking.
However, it mainly involves the movements of running, sprinting, jogging and most
importantly stopping and watching.
PSS3.5 Suggests, considers and selects appropriate alternatives when resolving
problems. This involves finding the most appropriate solution to a given situation. It also
demands certain level of assertiveness particularly in resisting an attacking situation.
