the red cross sign signifying neutral status and protection of medical

15. The Detaining Power may utilize the labor of prisoners of
war(physically fit, age, sex, rank, not compelled to work).

16. Besides work connected with camp administration, installation or maintenance, prisoners of
war may be compelled to do only such work(raw materials, chemical ,manufacturing
industries, agriculture, public works, building operations, transport, stores handling, arts
and crafts, domestic service having no military character).

nationals of the Detaining Power (accommodation, food, clothing,

28. The Detaining Power shall accept for distribution as supplementary pay
to prisoners of war (payable to all prisoners, placed in their separate
accounts).

29. Prisoners of war shall be paid a fair working rate of pay by the detaining
authorities (not less then one-fourth of one Swiss franc for a full working
day).

30. Prisoners of war shall be permitted to receive remittances of money addressed to
them individually or collectively (via Detaining Power, signed by the prisoners,
camp commander).

31. Detaining Power shall hold an account for each prisoner of

32. Every item entered in the account of a prisoner of war by him or by his

33. On the termination of captivity release of a prisoner of war Detaining Power give statement

behalf of the Power on which they depend.

35. Any claim by a prisoner of war for compensation in respect of any injury
or other disability arising out of work shall be referred to the Power on
which he depends, through the Protecting Power.

37. Immediately upon prisoners of war falling into its power, the Detaining Power shall inform
them and the Powers on which they depend, through the Protecting Power, of the
measures taken to carry out the provisions of the present Section.
