The current events that are obtaining in Nigeria are a grave concern for today’s progressive society in
general and more particularly for people living in the diaspora who have fled the sanctuary and
security of their home countries to go and live in countries they before never fathomed they would
live in. The difficulties and challenges of living in new countries have harrowed and traumatised them
beyond the test of their resilience, hunger for life and success.
It is the events like what is happening in Nigeria, where security forces open fire using live
ammunition just to quell dissent, to silence the voice of the electorate when they are not happy with
government or state action, that scorn at the value of African lives. This unheard-of African disease
must come to an end now. This is the tip of an iceberg, very soon if the AU does not take its proper
position and answer to the call, Africa will be on fire, and there will be no one to blame but the African
leaders who are failing the people time and time again, yet the people had put their trust on them.
We have called upon the AU Commission Chair, and the AU Chairperson to take seriously the
responsibilities of the AU and take to task all Heads of State and governments violating human rights,
we repeat the same clarion call now, and say, Africa is being let down by those who should be
protecting it. AU is betraying the trust of the people!!
We are calling upon President Buhari to respect human life, to respect the people that voted him
in power and the whole populace of Nigeria and treat them with dignity. He must stop killing the
people because clearly only he can deploy the army, and this means the President has gone rogue.
We are calling upon the AU Commission Chair, and AU Chair not to send an investigative mission
or team to investigate the butchering of the people but to call President Buhari to order and take
necessary steps if he does not stop and then summon him to the AU General Assembly to have these
actions tried and if Africa does not have the capacity to do it, then he must be sent to the ICC. We are
tired of leaders acting with impunity and yet the ordinary people’s lives are being squandered by greed
and criminality from these treasonous leaders who swore to uphold the constitution.
