President Jacob Zuma has decided upon a below inflation increase of 4.4% for political office bearers nationally and in the provinces for 2015/16, the outgoing financial year, in line with the current economic climate.

1. Annual salaryadjustmentforthe PublicOffice Bearers:2015/2016 financial year

PresidentJacobZumahasdecideduponabelow inflationincreaseof 4.4% for political office bearers
nationallyandinthe provincesfor2015/16, the outgoingfinancialyear,inline withthe current
economicclimate.
The determinationfor2016/17 has notyet beenmade by the IndependentCommissionforthe
Remunerationof PublicOffice Bearers.The salaryof the PresidentisdeterminedbyParliament.
The salariesandallowancesof differentcategoriesof publicoffice bearersare determinedbythe
President,aftertaking intoaccount,amongstothers,the following:
? the recommendationsof the Commission;
? the affordabilityof differentlevelsof remunerationof political office bearers;
? the current principlesandlevel of remunerationinsocietyingeneral;
? the provisionof uniformnormsandstandardsnationallytoaddressdisparities;
? inflationaryincreases.
The Commissionrecommendedthatthe salariesof all publicofficebearersbe increased,witheffect
from01 April 2015, as follows:
? 5% Membersof the Executive andDeputyMinisters.
? 5% Membersof Parliament.
? 5% Premiers,MECsand Membersof the Provincial Legislatures.
? 5% from the positionof the Chief Justice tothe positionof the Judge of the Supreme Courtof
Appeal.
? 5.5 % fromthe positionof the Judge Presidentof HighCourt/ Labour Courtto positionof the
Judge of the High Court/LabourCourt.
? 5.5% fromthe positionof the Special Grade Chief Magistrate tothe positionof the Chief
Magistrate.
2. ? 6% from the positionof the SeniorMagistrate tothe positionof the Magistrate.
? 5.5% fora positionof a King/ Queen.
? 6% from the positionof the Chairpersonof the National House of Traditional Leaderstothe
positionof aFull-time memberof the Provincial House of TraditionalLeaders.
? 8% for the positionof a SeniorTraditional Leader.
? R 91 000.00 forthe Headmen/Headwomen.
Afterconsidering,amongstothers,the recommendationsof the Commissionandthe conditionof
the economicclimate,whichhasdeteriorated,PresidentZuma hasdecidedtoincrease the salaries
of all publicoffice bearersasfollows:
? 4.4% forall publicoffice bearersexceptMagistratesandcertaincategoryof the traditional leaders.
? 5.5% fromthe positionof the Special Grade Chief Magistrate tothe positionof the Chief
Magistrate.
? 6% from the positionof the SeniorMagistrate tothe positionof the Magistrate.
? 4.4% fora positionof a King/ Queen.
? 6% from a positionof the Chairpersonof the National House of Traditional Leaderstoaposition of
a Full-time memberof the Provincial House of TraditionalLeaders.
? 8% for a positionof a SeniorTraditional Leader.
? R 91 000 for the Headmen/Headwomen.
