2. Genre
The genre of our teaser trailer is Action Crime Thriller, so
we therefore included all common aspects of each genre.
Action elements that we included in our trailer were the
car scene, the kidnapping, which is also the Crime
element, and the Thriller element is when we see the
protagonist tied up.
3. Representation
In our teaser trailer we use male and female characters, who fit
the Action genre conventions by fitting into the categories of
being a villain, victim or hero. The male characters play a
conventional role that portrays them as being domineering, for
example two of the male characters were behind the
kidnapping of the female, which is villainous. We did however
have a heroic male character, who was going to rescue the
victim (female character). There is then the female character
who is represented as being submissive and vulnerable, for
example she doesn’t defend herself when being kidnapped,
and is shown to be helpless when tied up, which gains
sympathy from the audience.
4. Narrative
The concept of our film is that the heroic character rescues the
victim before seeking his revenge on the kidnappers, resulting
in justice. We constructed our teaser trailer in a non-
chronological order, putting the aftermath as the initial scene to
capture the audience. We then showed the build up of events
to this end result, whilst a voiceover played reflecting on the
events. Towards the end of the teaser trailer we return to the
opening shot, however in this scene one of the kidnappers in
seen approaching the female character. This clarifies to the
audience how events unfold, how the kidnappers are
responsible and how she is being
controlled.
5. Mise En-Scene
We decided to use a dark colour palette, to suit the
convention of our genre. Dark colours are usually
associated with negative events and they add mystery as
it’s unclear to see certain features, for example, in our
final teaser trailer scene we see the arm and the hand of
the kidnapper, however due to the darkness we don’t
actually see the whole identity of the character. The dark
colour palette also blurs the image, which distorts the
viewer’s visions of what is happening.
6. Soundtrack
A fast tempo track is chosen to fit the conventions of an
Action genre. It changes the pace of events and makes
them more engaging. Although our trailer itself does not
portray much action, our hope was that the soundtrack
would give the viewer knowledge of the action to occur
should there be a full movie.
7. Font
The font we have used is consistent throughout all of our
products – the trailer, poster and magazine. This helps to
create a brand identity and gives a professional
impression. The font we chose is Dhe Mysterious, which
has a smoke-blur effect to it, which is almost
representative of mist. It isn’t necessarily clear either,
which could show that the storyline isn’t straightforward
and is full of mystery. The colour we made the font is also
related to our colour palette; it is a grey shade with areas
of the letters being in darkness or faded out.
