2. Early Advantages in the music video
Music videos were invented to be a short film that represented the song threw various moving
images and different scenery. In the 1980s it first became big to have a video that matched the
song what the artist produced. MTV based there TV channel on solely having music videos.
When music videos first came out they were known as promotional clips or filmed inserts.
When directors produce a music video they use a wide variety of styles and techniques like
documentaries, animations and live action.
1984 – A man called George Thomas projected a series of still images on a screen and he put
them together which made it look like moving images.
1902 – 1917 – the phonoscene was a forerunner of sound film. It combined a sound recording
with a short film shot with actors lip synching to the sound recording.
1926 – 1959 – dancers were now involved in the making and it last up to 6 minutes. They also
started to think about the background they would need that would match the song.
1960 – 1967 – in the late 50s in France a visual jukebox was invented and many short films
were produced by French artist.
1967 – 1973 – Many bands made a music video if they couldn’t perform live on TV.
1974 – 1980 – By this time Australia had now started making music videos, they had
developed and were becoming more popular in time. they realised the importance of
establishing an artist on TV.

1981 – 1991 – music videos were now mainstream and it was all about making the most
attractive and outstanding video to get peoples attention.
1992 – 2004 – by this time MTV started listing directors with the artist and song credits, this
shows how big music videos had become in just a few years.
2010 – some videos now have became very out of control E.G.

on TV.
There are a lot more TV channels that will show music videos on a daily
bases now, including:

Many TV’s also now have many radio stations which play music all day
however the video doesn’t get played with it. Also MTV also show music
channels however they have been around since the 80s.
6. Groundbreaking influential videos.
Many videos have been around for years however now the
majority of videos are watched on a website called
YouTube. This Is where you can watch music videos for free
and all different types of videos. Justin bieber has the most
viewed video on YouTube which is called baby and has
747,382, 358 million views. This has never been done before
even though many great music videos like Thriller and bad
romance.
