1) Asceticism and indulgence are both associated with spirituality but can become pathological when taken to extremes. 2) Material needs are physiological but neither uncontrolled indulgence nor forced suppression of needs through abstinence and austerity are conducive to spiritual growth. 3) Through practicing "NAMASMARAN", one can overcome indulgence or suppression in a healthy way and experience spirituality at every stage of life without becoming coercive or atrocious towards others.
