Renato M. E. Sabbatini is a Brazilian scientist born in 1947. He has contributed significantly in areas of neuroethology, medical informatics, health sciences, distance education, and telemedicine. He helped establish medical informatics as a field in Brazil and founded several organizations including the Brazilian Society for Health Informatics. Sabbatini has published extensively, founded educational institutions and companies, and popularized science through writing for the public. He is considered a pioneer in applying new technologies to education in Brazil.
