It is easy to find fake goods in Bangkok’s markets. They seem
to be just about everywhere. Do you ever wonder where they
come from?
Some are produced here in Thailand, of course, but many
arrive from other countries, especially by sea. That was the
case with one large shipment that Customs officials were
recently able to seize from a ship off the coast of Songkhla in
the Gulf of Thailand.
The Customs Department confiscated untaxed and pirated
items worth an estimated 33 million baht from the ship.
The goods, including chainsaws, wood, diesel fuel and liquor,
were seized 10 nautical miles off Koh Nu before they could be

Poolsavasdi told a news conference on Monday.
The haul included 700 chainsaws worth 10.5 million baht, logs
and processed wood valued at 5.6 million baht, 15,000 litres of
diesel worth 3.5 million baht and 1,154 bottles of spiritsand
wine worth 2.5 million baht.
Officers also found 8,433 items of imitation goods worth 6.1
million baht, mainly perfume, bags, glasses and name
brand clothing.
Mr Somchai said the owner of the goods would face various
charges under the Customs, Forestry and Copyright acts.
