Abstract
The study was conducted in the Districts of Bangoy, Tibungco, and
Bunawan, Davao City during the school year 2009-2010. It aimed to determine
the relationship between the leadership styles of school administrators and work
motivation of classroom teachers. Using the descriptive-correlational method of
research, the responses of the 6 principals and 95 school administrators were
correlated. It was found out that the leadership styles of school administrators
and work motivation of classroom teachers were related with each other. From
the findings, the following conclusions were drawn: The high level of leadership
styles of school principals in terms of visionary, coaching, affiliative, democratic,
pacesetting, and commanding reflect that the school principals establish good
supervision in terms of the day to day affairs of the school. The high level of
work motivation in terms of personal sense of achievement, physical work
setting/environment, relationship with co-workers, and recognition and award
prove that the classroom teachers are highly committed and motivated to their
profession. The high level of the leadership styles of school principals is a
reflection that they are effective leaders and that they are able to manage and
supervise the day to day activities of the school geared towards the attainment of
the school vision, mission, and goal. In the light of the findings and conclusions,
it is strongly recommended that the Department of Education should design
more trainings, conferences, seminars and workshops to further enhance the
skills and knowledge of the school principals, teachers- in- charge, officers-in-

charge, as well as head teachers. The school principals must lead their
classroom teachers for the attainment of the school vision, mission and goal in
consonance with the country’s national development objectives. They should
always be open and keep pace with whatever current educational trends,
innovations and thrusts to make more adept to the DepEd curricular
development. The classroom teachers themselves should reinforce their drive
and motivation so as to be more interested and committed to their profession. If
properly motivated the classroom teachers would make their teaching-learning
as an intellectual journey to motivate learners to learn more, hence, quality and
excellence in instruction will be attained. Finally, other researchers may conduct
further study focused on the leadership styles of school principals and work
motivation of classroom teachers both private and public elementary schools to
establish the study’s external validity.
