• The village is built upon the Tadane
Lake
• Nzulezo was declared UNESCO World
Heritage Site (In January 17, 2000)

• People originated from Walata, city in
ancient Mali empire (15th century)
–rich, blessed lands, minerals, gold
–Harassed by Mendes (Senegal)
(jealousy)
• People emigrated southwards, led by
their snail god to flee from repetitive
attacks
