Verse to Remember Joshua 1:8
To grow spirituallythere are acouple of disciplinesthatisnecessarytopractice duringyour
Christianlife.Inthislessonwe willbe lookingintoone of those disciplines. All growthif itsphysical or
spiritual requireswork.Inmanyversesinthe bible the Wordof God showsusthat the word of God is
spiritual food. Matthew4:4 “But he answeredand said, “It iswritten, ‘Man shall not live by bread
alone, but by every word that proceedsfrom the mouth of God’. 1 Peter2:2 as newbornbabies,
desires the pure milkof the word, thatyou maygrow thereby,if indeedyouhave tastedthatthe Lord is
gracious.
The milkisthe perfectfoodforbabiestogrow in as the wordof God isfor new believersin
Jesus.Afterawhile babieshave tostarteatingsolid foods. We cansee in 1 Corinthians3:1-3 thatthe
apostle Paul isexhortingthe churchthattheyhave stoppedgrowing.Thathe can’t talkto themlike
spiritual people butinsteadlike carnal mindpeople.Havingagaingive themmilkwhentheyshouldbe
on solidfood. It’snotGodswill thatyou stopgrowingor go backwardinyour walkwithHim.If you want
to grow spirituallyinyourwalkwiththe Lord, youmust learnhow to feedyourspirit. One of those ways
isyour dailybible studies. So,youmustread the bible,be diligentinlearningwhatthe Lordwantsto
teachyou and meditate onthe word.
A wayto grow isto read the bible ona dailybasis.Butnotjust readthe bible asin obligationbut
readingcarefullytounderstandthe Wordof God soto grow spiritually. Takingthe Wordof God as a
personal message foryou. Before youreadthe Wordof God take a momentinprayerto ask the Lord to
openup yourunderstandingof Hisword.Takingnotesisa greatideaas well asyou read. You can use
these three questionsasguidelinesasyouread.
-Do I findinthese versesorchaptersanexample thatIshouldfollow?
-Do these versesorchaptershave a sinthat I have committedandshouldconfessittoGod?
-What are situationsoractionsI shouldavoidtonot sin?
-Do these verseshave commandmentsIshouldfollow?
-Do these versescontainpromisesIshouldbelievebyfaith?
-Do these verseshave aprayerI shouldbe doing?
It’sa greatideato learnbible versesbymemory.Forexample, Psalms119:11 “Your word I have
hiddenin my heart, That I might not sinagainst You.” Here we can see that the wordof God we must
learnand keepitinour heartsand mindtodo what isrightin the will of God.Jesusisour example when
he was beingtemptedbythe devil,he spoke the versesfromthe bookof Deuteronomyhe memorized
to overcome him.Take a momentcompare Matthew4:4 with Deuteronomy8:3; Matthew 4:7 to
Deuteronomy6:16; and Matthew 4:10 to Deuteronomy6:13.
2. Try to take some time to do bible studyeverydayandmemorizebible versesthatstandoutto
you.Meditate onwhat youare reading. Joshua1:8 “This book of the Law shall not depart from your
mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is
written init. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success.” We
can see that thispassage mentionsthatreadingand meditation onthe Wordlaterproduces obedience
and blessings inyourlife.
Let’slookat Hebrews4:12 Here we see that Gods Word ispowerful in itself doingsomethingto
the soul and the spiritof man, andit helpsusto discernwhatare ourthoughtsand whatis inour hearts.
Its as if the Word of God islike lookingintoaspiritual mirrorandseeingwhatwe are trulylike.Thatway
we can choose to change those areas inour livesthe Lordwantsto by seeinghisthoughtsandhisheart
inthe livingWord, inHistruth. That verse goeshandinhand with 2 Timothy 3:16 “ All scripture is
inspiredby Godand is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in
righteousness;” That’swhyit’ssoimportanttohave dailybible study soGodcan teachus rebuke usor
correct us soto be righteous.
