2. Pollution
 An undesirable change in the Physical,Chemical and
Biological characteristics of air,water and land that can
be harmful to the living organism is called pollution.

3. Types of Pollution
 Air Pollution
 Water Pollution
 Soil Pollution
 Noise Pollution

4. Air Pollution
 Pure air is a mixture of gases which contains 78%
nitogen,21%oxygen and a little less than 1% of organ.
Any unwanted change in composition of these
component called Air Pollution.

5. Sources of Air Pollution
Man-made(caused by human activities)
Growing human population
Fire giving out smoke and ash
Industrialization(Producing poisonous gases)
Transportation, Emission from vehicles
Use of fossil fuels
Smog
Wars
Accidental happenings(leakage from atomic bhopal
gas leakage etc)

8. Control of Air Pollution
Planting and protecting trees
Regular checking,updating,servicing and tuning of the
machines run on fuel.
Using less polluting fuel at home for domestic
purposes.
Using bicycles, cycle-rickshaws,battery-operated vans
and vehicles.
Old obsolete and polluting vehicles should be banned
from playing on the roads.

9. Water Pollution
Contamination of external unwanted material which
effect the purity of water is called water pollution.

10. Sources of Water Pollution
Discharge of industrial waste, sewage and garbage.
Release of Industrial toxic material
Dead bodies
Washing of Clothes etc.

11. Effect of water pollution
Polluted water causes many diseases in human beings
like Typhoid, Cholera, Jaundice, Fluoride etc.

12. Control of Water Pollution
Water bodies should be protected throwing ashes
,dead bodies ,dirty hairs and garbage should be
stopped.
Washing Clothes with soap and detergent in the rivers
,pond and other water should be stopped.
Bathing with soap in the rivers and ponds should also
be avoided.

13. Soil Pollution
Undesirable change of soil characteristic due to affect
of external component is called soil pollution

14. Source of Soil Pollution
Dumping of solid waste
Garbage
Use of Pesticide and Fertilizer
Soil erosion
Deforestation,overgrazing,brick making, flood and
dust storm etc.

15. Effect of Soil Pollution
Loss of soil fertility
Help to breed rats,flies,mosquitoes and several
bacterial and other potential vector of many diseases.

Industries to be set up away from dwelling areas.
