2. Primary... Secondary...
In both examples I used artists and my
own materials.
For the first example I demonstrated a
primary resource, with a photograph of
the object I worked on, which later
inspired my compositions page.
In the second example I showed
a secondary resource,
demonstrating the use of artist
photos (David Hockney) to
produce piece of art or a study.
By using artists visual language I
was able to interpret the tone,
depth and colourful elements of
the piece
4. In the style of...
In many of my works (including artist
studies) I try and recreate and interpret
the visual language as best as I can.
In my Juan Gris study
I used the tone in the background to push
back certain areas, such as the black.
Juan Gris uses this method i his original
work ‘Bottle of Banyuls’.
When creating my Pablo Picasso sculpture
I made sure that I kept the areas such as
the mouth and eyes very deep, this was
to create texture to a very smooth
Sculpture, this was influenced by
Picasso’s original work
‘Head of a woman’.
5. Technique, quote, materials
For the collage I used cardboard,
paint, ink and string.
For my model I used cardboard,
tape and gum tape. I found it
extremely difficult to use it, as it
wasn't malleable and would not
bend into the shapes I needed. To
create the bowl like shape I used
tape to pull it taught. To create
texture I ripped cardboard and
smoothed out tape.
6. Safety first
Safety is key when working in the classroom.
When creating my model I was using scalpel
blades to cut straight lines; to keep safe it’s
important to cut away. From this I created my
3D model
When printmaking we were
using large, heavy machinery.
To create the print correctly we
needed to be careful when
printing. The end result was
exactly as planned (with a little
t too much ink)
7. Evaluation
My use of visual language has significantly improved since starting the
course, I am now able to look at others work and interpret and
evaluate their use of visual language. On my studies such as Eduardo
Paolozzi I focused on his use of tone to accentuate my study.
However to improve upon my use of visual language I could use more
of the artists techniques e.g. Application of paint
.
For many of my works I have used a range
of materials. When creating a Picasso
sculpture I used clay and when making a
still life model I used cardboard and tape; I
found both materials challenging in their
own ways... The clay was easier to move
and bend but was difficult to handle when
trying to join two pieces... The cardboard
was better for making flat surfaces, but
when working on the 3D elements it was
much harder to manoeuvre and ‘sculpt.
To improve upon my use of materials
I aim to use a wider variety of
materials, in a manner of different
ways.
