How To Write A Personal Narrative Essay
I was raised by a single mother, but my home was filled with family. My mother, sister, and I shared
a room with two twin–size beds. My aunts, uncles, five cousins, and grandparents shared the two
remaining bedrooms. In total, there were thirteen people sharing a three–bedroom, one–bathroom
home. For the children, the nonstop playtime and carefree memories mitigated the obstacles that
came with our socioeconomic insufficiency. For me, our tight–knit family and living situation made it
much easier to overcome the absence of my father.
My father represented many of the negative stereotypes that Mexican Americans and Mexican
immigrants have to combat. He immigrated to the United States as a young adult and fell into a life
of criminal activity during our city's booming methamphetamine trade. His choices had an adverse
impact on not only my family, but also our community at large. I was somewhat sheltered from
learning too much about my...show more content...
Rejecting the criminal element in our community required a deliberate choice to exclude myself
from the majority and often made me feel left out. Many of my peers criticized me and called me
stuck up or "white washed" because of the choices I made. My family fully supported my goals,
but their own education levels and unfamiliarity with the college admission process restricted the
amount of guidance they were able to provide. Counselors at my high school were overloaded by
high dropout rates and unable to focus on college bound students. It was the small acts of support
and encouragement that ultimately got me to overcome my inhibitions and fears of the unknown
and pursue a bachelor's degree: a friend who told me what the SAT was, a teacher who explained the
FAFSA and college deadlines. These processes seem basic to some, but can be overwhelming to a
first–generation student to the point where it becomes easier to put it off or quit

How To Write A Literacy Narrative Essay
On the other hand, writing on topics that fascinate and intrigue me, is rather enjoyable than feeling
like a chore. Ideas stream and words flow naturally without having to mimic and echo others voice.
A literacy narrative is a piece of text written from my own perspective for the intermediate English
composition class. A literacy narrative is anessay about my writing and reading literacy, looking
back to various incidents with a brand new outlook. Writing this essay allowed me to revisit and
assess highlights that contributed to my writing and reading literacy. The main goal of literacy

literacy formalized every step of the way. In general, the

How To Write A Narrative Essay On Middle School
Drama, cliques, and awkwardness make middle school most people's least favorite time. Nothing
can make it any worse than it already is. Unless of course, one switches schools right before eighth
grade.
Before my eighth grade year, I switched from a small charter school in Inver Grove Heights where I
had gone since Kindergarten, to Blackhawk Middle School, a much bigger public school in Eagan. I
didn't want to leave my old school behind at all. Class sizes there were about fifty, and I had the
same friends since Kindergarten. Every inch of the school was familiar to me. I knew all the
teachers, and my mother was even friends with many of them. After eight years, I had developed a
sort of sixth sense about the school and everyone in it. My transition to Blackhawk Middle School
was one of the greatest challenges I've experienced. The change was drastic, and it was very hard
for me to adjust....show more content...
Just walking into the school was overwhelming. Compared to my previous school, it was massive.
Everyone already had friends from their previous two years in middle school. The system of
changing rooms for every class was alien to me, so of course, I got lost quite a bit. Further
complicating the matter was the fact that there was a different schedule every other day. I didn't
realize that until first period on the second day of school, when a rather unfriendly girl told me to
get out of her seat.
During my first weeks at school, I kept my head down and didn't talk much. I didn't participate in
class out of fear of drawing attention to myself and was too shy to approach anyone.
Things started to get better when my English teacher made an announcement about the beginning of
Declam season, a middle school speech competition. At my old school, there was nothing of the sort.
Curious, I attended the information session and was immediately

I have always been passionate about writing. From a young age, I would wake up on Saturdays and
run straight to the computer to pour all of my thoughts into whatever story I would imagine that
week. It brought me great delight and pleasure to express my thoughts in a way over which I had
free reign, creating beings and worlds without limit or restraint of reality. I see writing as my best and
most natural form of communication.
It may come as no surprise, then, that I was thrilled to be "required" to enroll in a writing class.
Writing for any reason, whether academic or creative, always throws me back to the joyous
childhood creativity of sitting before the computer, preparing to let the waves of story come crashing
out of me.
Because of the large amount of effort with which I have sculpted my...show more content...
I found it exciting to decide in which form I might attempt to introduce myself. I chose a prose or
short–story format, as much of my young life I wrote stories. I then chose to write in a way that
projected into the future and reflected on the choices I am currently making by imagining what my
life would be like as a grandmother. Not only was it a joy to create, but it also gave me insight and
validation, that if I continue on my current path, I will be content with where I end up in life. The
part of the assignment that most challenged me was the reflection process – I'm so used to just
writing and not reflecting on the process of how I came to the ideas I try to translate. This
expanded my skills, giving me a new tool for writing, as now I know to reflect on why and how I
write. Practicing writing reflections will ultimately give me great insight and continue to force me
to consider my own work rather than just accepting it as it is. This exercise reminded me that there
is always room for self–improvement as a result of

End of the Year When I was in Elementary school I attended Rice Elementary in Santa Maria. I
heard when you enter Junior High that the people who hang out with you begin to shape who you
become later during the year. The thing I was concerned about Junior High was fitting in and
having real friends that won't take my friendship for granted. My first impressions of Tevis were
good. I had good vibes about the school and it looked like there was nice people all around.
Compared to last year I think this year was much better. There is a lot of fake people though not
going to lie. I think the most hardest class I had was my math like always. I have never been very
well at doing math. I still haven't been doing good that much this year but last

Writing A Personal Narrative
A Personal narrative is somewhat of a personal essay written about something tragic or informative
that the writer has experience and trying to encourage the reader to learn from his/her past. Writing
an essay come with its own sets of challenges such as producing ideas that can be both solid and
entertaining. For me, a personal narrative is an essay that involves me expressing my ideology,
creativity, and hidden emotions. There are many things that I take into perspective whenwriting an
appealing personal narrative essay. The key points in writing the essay is the convey information by
providing important details that spark interest and enthusiasm to the reader.

"Here we go. I hope this is good." I hope to myself. "I hope it is traditional sushi and not weird,
artificial sushi. ééThis is my first time trying it and I will call this regular sushi after I try it. I
don't want a bad sushi to be what I think is regular sushi."
I open the door. "Jingle Jingle" went the bells on the door to signal our incoming. Suddenly, the
aroma of fresh sushi filled the fresh air.
"Welcome to Hong Kong Sushi. How many in your party?" greeted a waiter with a japanese accent.
"Only the two of us." my mom replied.
"Great! Would you please follow me?" Continued the waiter as she lead us to a very nice table.
I looked around the restaurant. What I saw was amazing. There were replicas of different types of
fish and sharks on the wall with the name of their species underneath them. Then I saw a short bar
with a clear window in it. There you could see the chef making sushi and the ingredients he uses.
"Excuse me? Can we sit at the bar?" asked my mom.
"Sure!" agreed the waiter. She hands us two menus. "Would you like to start off with a drink?"

Personal Experience: Personal Narrative Writer
Over the course of the year, I received many writing assignments. Some assignments were
relatively easy, while others challenged me. I learned a few lessons along the way, and I also
enjoyed completing some of the pieces. Looking back on the year, and seeing my assignments
graded on the Sage Day Holistic Writing Rubric, it is clear that this year was significant for me in
terms of my writing.
One of the things I learned this year was that writing doesn't have to mean sitting down for a few
hours and being bored. I discovered that writing could be fun! I enjoyed writing my narrative
piece, "The Princess is Caught," and a persuasive piece, "Fabulous Field Trip: A Letter to the
Principal" because I had an opportunity to use my imagination. An opportunity to be imaginative
was also given to me in one of my science pieces, "Simple Machines and the Rube Goldberg." In
my opinion, completing writing tasks was much more fun when imagination was involved in
some way. I also enjoyed expressing my opinion, like I did in my persuasive pieces, such as "Games
in Math Class." Out of the styles of writing that I did this year, I believe that I have done the best

My average Sage Day Holistic Writing Rubric score for expository pieces, rounded to the nearest
hundredth, is 4.20. Compared to an average score of 5.13 for persuasive pieces and 4.40 for
narrative pieces, it is clear that one of my weaknesses in writing is writing expository pieces, which
I find challenging because I do not know very many strategies and techniques to use when writing
them. Specifically, I have found writing openings and closings for expository pieces to be one of my
worst weaknesses as a writer. On the Sage Day Holistic Writing Rubric, I have gotten scores of 5
and 6 for the "Opening & Closing" category on my persuasive and narrative pieces; however, I
received scores of 3 and 4 on my expository

Narrative Essay On A Journey
Everybody is on or has been on a journey before. Being on a journey is very important because it
gives you a goal or task that you want to accomplish. When you go on a journey you find is
yourself through the experiences and obstacles that life throws at you. Throughout a journey, you
are taught life lessons and have the capability of applying that new knowledge for the future for a
better outcome. Sometimes, these life lessons challenge you and you ultimately succeed at the end.
For the past 5 months, I have been on a journey as I have been learning a new instrument that I've
always wanted to learn since I was a little kid. Being on this path has taught me many life lessons
and how to stay focused on what really matters.
My interest in guitar started when my friend used to bring his guitar everyday and I would always
want to play but didn't know how. I would always ask him to teach me how to play but I didn't
know any of the chords and notes, therefore, I just gave up on attempting to play this new
instrument. However, guitar is an elective that's offered here at Kennedy, so I decided to take the
class. I noticed that my friend was getting better the more he practiced, so I decided to join the
class to learn the basics and get started on this new journey. At first, it was difficult to understand
the notes because I didn't have any musical background to help assist me for my own benefit.
However, I began to focus more in class to learn the basics day by day. Overtime, I learned that you
can't learn guitar in one day and you need a lot of practice to get better. I also discovered how
progress is important to reach my end goal.
I stayed on this journey to learn guitar because playing guitar is a special skill that I want to
learn. n my free time or when I'm bored, I could play guitar while learning new and more songs to
play. As a result, I will eventually and gradually get more advanced the more I learn. Another
reason I stayed on this journey is because I want to want to challenge myself to do something I
thought I could never do. When I was little, I always thought that I would never be able to play an
instrument because it was too difficult to learn. Therefore, this is why I wanted to learn guitar in the

Personal Narrative: My Writing As A Writer
During this spring semester, I have grown in many ways as a writer, and a student. I have started
to realize, and accept the flaws that I have created in my writing. In the past, I never looked into
my writings and saw my problems, and if I did, I did not accept that they were problems. In my
writing pieces in the past, I was very hard–headed about what I thought was correct versus what was
actually correct. I have also become More familiar with different formatting options on Microsoft
Word to create a more professional piece or writing. However, figuring out all the parts of writing
and making them work together is the most difficult part of writing. A writer can influence a
reader in many ways using many different strategies. They may be influenced with emotion,
logic, and experience. A main way of influencing your reader is to support your claims
thoroughly. At the beginning of the semester, and through part of the semester, I would come up
with a good main point, but I would lack Good supporting detail to my claims. After being in this
class, I realize more that I need to come up with good supporting evidence to back up my claims.
When writing, I have started to look at my writing in different ways. When I finish writing my
papers, I look back at it and re read it out loud to try to find any...show more content...
Putting all the parts of writing together is what makes a good piece of writing. Over the semester,
my realization of what I was doing wrong paired with the different formatting strategies and the
desire to become a better writer has helped me to become better overall. I believe that practice
makes perfect, and while I have not perfected my writing or even come close yet, I believe that I
have gotten closer to being a proficient writer. I believe that this class has helped me to get closer
to becoming a proficient writer, and will help me in my future classes and

How To Write A Personal Narrative Essay
The day I separated from my mother to live with my father in the United States marked the
beginning of a downward spiral in my life, or so I thought. Coming from Vietnam at the age of
seven, I experienced a cultural shock. For starters, I did not speak English, which made
interacting with other children my age a difficult task. But to my advantage, speaking and
knowing Vietnamese is an asset I have come to eventually appreciate. However, life at home and
my relationship with my father or lack of one was hard for me to understand at such a young age
as I was only reunited with him a week before I left Vietnam. I began to shield myself from this
foreign world around me and found solace in our backyard swimming pool. I thought of my
mother constantly. I always knew she was sick, but I never realized of what extent her illness had
consumed her health. The day that I woke up to my father's forlorn face is the day that took away

saying, "why don't you shoot me already?" when upset. One day, I noticed George becoming

How To Write A Personal Narrative Essay
From a very young age, I learned that one word held much more weight in my family than others:
"money." My family's priorities revolved around bills and expenses, and the money that we were
seemingly always lacking to pay them. My mother, who was diagnosed with severe obsessive
compulsive disorder before my birth, was unable to work, leaving my father to support our family
with his insufficient truck–driving wage. The stress caused by these financial issues, in addition to
my mother's mental condition and my father's alcoholism, led to constant fighting in our household
that ultimately caused my parents to separate the year before I began kindergarten. My brother and I
stayed with my mother despite her condition.
When I reached elementary school, my mother never cared very much about my attendance. In the
negligent fashion that I became accustomed to, poor grades or failure to turn in assignments also
held no consequences for me. Despite my bad attendance and the lack of parental authority in my
early education, it was soon evident that I was academically gifted; I enjoyed learning and my

dreaming of a better future. As I began to consider college, I worried incessantly about the costs I
would face and sometimes wondered if it was even a possibility. To this day, I am extremely thankful
to my councilor for informing me that anyone can go to college, despite their circumstances. She

When I was younger, I would eat up books faster than I got them. I'd frequently been found

I understood what I wrote. It had fascinated me, and honestly frustrated me, that people could

School was never truly something that was extremely hard for me. I have maintained at a
minimum, a 3.0 GPA or higher since 4th grade. I have had a few struggling points in school, but
everyone has those moments; no one is perfect, but everyone has that one point in time, whether it is
school related or even in everyday life.
My struggle point began during my freshman year of high school in my Spanish II class. Even
though I had taken Spanish I, it failed to stick in my brain. So I began cheating on my tests,

I began changing my study habits; I found out that the best way for me to study was to read all my

will not get tired quickly and that has helped me throughout my school years, I still have a certain

Personal Narrative Essay: A Day At The Beach
I stretched my arms out and looked up and down the beach. Although I lived in Waikiki for years,
it'd been far too long since I took a vacation, let alone the beach, since I'm dealing with
neverending piles of school assignments and activities. As I strolled along the coastline I can feel
the soft smooth sand beneath my feet. I was taken in by the soothing atmosphere that encircled me.
I closed my eyes, letting myself absorb the blistering rays of the sun on a scorching summer day.
The beach was oddly quiet for this time of that year, only a handful of people sunbathing. I didn't
mind, I was going to enjoy myself.
I headed out to the water after setting up my towel. The shock of the frigid water took my breath
away and I was momentarily stunned. However, I quickly recovered; finding my body adjusts
rapidly to the cold water. I waded a few feet into it before leaning forward and swimming out. I
didn't dare to go too far though, instead turning to swim parallel to the shore. I was comforted by
the sounds of the ocean; the rhythmic pounding of the waves represses all of my worries. I looked
into the cloudless cerulean blue sky and see the perfection of life. Just when I was starting to get

Personal Narrative: What I Learned In My Writing
Throughout my writing this semester, I know where I struggle with writing and I have learned
many skills to improve my writing . Also it will be all about all the activities we have done and
how they have helped me with my writing. I will talk about the areas I struggle with and what I
have learned in this semester. At the beginning of this semester, I was a very unorganised writer and
I didn't use any evidence in my writing, as shown in the first essay I wrote for Artificial Intelligence.
I did not prepare for the essay and I didn't explain the few evidence that I had put down. Before I
turned in that essay I could have revised it before I turned it in because I had many spelling and
grammatical errors. I really struggled with organizing my writing but, as the semester went on I

Tips On Writing A Narrative Essay

  • 1. How To Write A Personal Narrative Essay I was raised by a single mother, but my home was filled with family. My mother, sister, and I shared a room with two twin–size beds. My aunts, uncles, five cousins, and grandparents shared the two remaining bedrooms. In total, there were thirteen people sharing a three–bedroom, one–bathroom home. For the children, the nonstop playtime and carefree memories mitigated the obstacles that came with our socioeconomic insufficiency. For me, our tight–knit family and living situation made it much easier to overcome the absence of my father. My father represented many of the negative stereotypes that Mexican Americans and Mexican immigrants have to combat. He immigrated to the United States as a young adult and fell into a life of criminal activity during our city's booming methamphetamine trade. His choices had an adverse impact on not only my family, but also our community at large. I was somewhat sheltered from learning too much about my...show more content... Rejecting the criminal element in our community required a deliberate choice to exclude myself from the majority and often made me feel left out. Many of my peers criticized me and called me stuck up or "white washed" because of the choices I made. My family fully supported my goals, but their own education levels and unfamiliarity with the college admission process restricted the amount of guidance they were able to provide. Counselors at my high school were overloaded by high dropout rates and unable to focus on college bound students. It was the small acts of support and encouragement that ultimately got me to overcome my inhibitions and fears of the unknown and pursue a bachelor's degree: a friend who told me what the SAT was, a teacher who explained the FAFSA and college deadlines. These processes seem basic to some, but can be overwhelming to a first–generation student to the point where it becomes easier to put it off or quit Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 2. How To Write A Literacy Narrative Essay On the other hand, writing on topics that fascinate and intrigue me, is rather enjoyable than feeling like a chore. Ideas stream and words flow naturally without having to mimic and echo others voice. A literacy narrative is a piece of text written from my own perspective for the intermediate English composition class. A literacy narrative is anessay about my writing and reading literacy, looking back to various incidents with a brand new outlook. Writing this essay allowed me to revisit and assess highlights that contributed to my writing and reading literacy. The main goal of literacy narrative essay is to define literacy, discuss my own personal literacy rituals leading to how my literacy formalized every step of the way. • 3. How To Write A Narrative Essay On Middle School Drama, cliques, and awkwardness make middle school most people's least favorite time. Nothing can make it any worse than it already is. Unless of course, one switches schools right before eighth grade. Before my eighth grade year, I switched from a small charter school in Inver Grove Heights where I had gone since Kindergarten, to Blackhawk Middle School, a much bigger public school in Eagan. I didn't want to leave my old school behind at all. Class sizes there were about fifty, and I had the same friends since Kindergarten. Every inch of the school was familiar to me. I knew all the teachers, and my mother was even friends with many of them. After eight years, I had developed a sort of sixth sense about the school and everyone in it. My transition to Blackhawk Middle School was one of the greatest challenges I've experienced. The change was drastic, and it was very hard for me to adjust....show more content... Just walking into the school was overwhelming. Compared to my previous school, it was massive. Everyone already had friends from their previous two years in middle school. The system of changing rooms for every class was alien to me, so of course, I got lost quite a bit. Further complicating the matter was the fact that there was a different schedule every other day. I didn't realize that until first period on the second day of school, when a rather unfriendly girl told me to get out of her seat. During my first weeks at school, I kept my head down and didn't talk much. I didn't participate in class out of fear of drawing attention to myself and was too shy to approach anyone. Things started to get better when my English teacher made an announcement about the beginning of Declam season, a middle school speech competition. At my old school, there was nothing of the sort. Curious, I attended the information session and was immediately Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 4. I have always been passionate about writing. From a young age, I would wake up on Saturdays and run straight to the computer to pour all of my thoughts into whatever story I would imagine that week. It brought me great delight and pleasure to express my thoughts in a way over which I had free reign, creating beings and worlds without limit or restraint of reality. I see writing as my best and most natural form of communication. It may come as no surprise, then, that I was thrilled to be "required" to enroll in a writing class. Writing for any reason, whether academic or creative, always throws me back to the joyous childhood creativity of sitting before the computer, preparing to let the waves of story come crashing out of me. Because of the large amount of effort with which I have sculpted my...show more content... I found it exciting to decide in which form I might attempt to introduce myself. I chose a prose or short–story format, as much of my young life I wrote stories. I then chose to write in a way that projected into the future and reflected on the choices I am currently making by imagining what my life would be like as a grandmother. Not only was it a joy to create, but it also gave me insight and validation, that if I continue on my current path, I will be content with where I end up in life. The part of the assignment that most challenged me was the reflection process – I'm so used to just writing and not reflecting on the process of how I came to the ideas I try to translate. This expanded my skills, giving me a new tool for writing, as now I know to reflect on why and how I write. Practicing writing reflections will ultimately give me great insight and continue to force me to consider my own work rather than just accepting it as it is. This exercise reminded me that there is always room for self–improvement as a result of Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 5. End of the Year When I was in Elementary school I attended Rice Elementary in Santa Maria. I heard when you enter Junior High that the people who hang out with you begin to shape who you become later during the year. The thing I was concerned about Junior High was fitting in and having real friends that won't take my friendship for granted. My first impressions of Tevis were good. I had good vibes about the school and it looked like there was nice people all around. Compared to last year I think this year was much better. There is a lot of fake people though not going to lie. I think the most hardest class I had was my math like always. I have never been very well at doing math. There were replicas of different types of fish and sharks on the wall with the name of their species underneath them. Then I saw a short bar with a clear window in it. There you could see the chef making sushi and the ingredients he uses. "Excuse me? Can we sit at the bar?" asked my mom. "Sure!" agreed the waiter. She hands us two menus. • 8. Personal Experience: Personal Narrative Writer Over the course of the year, I received many writing assignments. Some assignments were relatively easy, while others challenged me. I learned a few lessons along the way, and I also enjoyed completing some of the pieces. Looking back on the year, and seeing my assignments graded on the Sage Day Holistic Writing Rubric, it is clear that this year was significant for me in terms of my writing. One of the things I learned this year was that writing doesn't have to mean sitting down for a few hours and being bored. I discovered that writing could be fun! I enjoyed writing my narrative piece, "The Princess is Caught," and a persuasive piece, "Fabulous Field Trip: A Letter to the Principal" because I had an opportunity to use my imagination. An opportunity to be imaginative was also given to me in one of my science pieces, "Simple Machines and the Rube Goldberg." In my opinion, completing writing tasks was much more fun when imagination was involved in some way. I also enjoyed expressing my opinion, like I did in my persuasive pieces, such as "Games in Math Class." Out of the styles of writing that I did this year, I believe that I have done the best work writing...show more content... My average Sage Day Holistic Writing Rubric score for expository pieces, rounded to the nearest hundredth, is 4.20. Compared to an average score of 5.13 for persuasive pieces and 4.40 for narrative pieces, it is clear that one of my weaknesses in writing is writing expository pieces, which I find challenging because I do not know very many strategies and techniques to use when writing them. Specifically, I have found writing openings and closings for expository pieces to be one of my worst weaknesses as a writer. On the Sage Day Holistic Writing Rubric, I have gotten scores of 5 and 6 for the "Opening & Closing" category on my persuasive and narrative pieces; however, I received scores of 3 and 4 on my expository Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 9. Narrative Essay On A Journey Everybody is on or has been on a journey before. Being on a journey is very important because it gives you a goal or task that you want to accomplish. When you go on a journey you find is yourself through the experiences and obstacles that life throws at you. Throughout a journey, you are taught life lessons and have the capability of applying that new knowledge for the future for a better outcome. Sometimes, these life lessons challenge you and you ultimately succeed at the end. For the past 5 months, I have been on a journey as I have been learning a new instrument that I've always wanted to learn since I was a little kid. Being on this path has taught me many life lessons and how to stay focused on what really matters. My interest in guitar started when my friend used to bring his guitar everyday and I would always want to play but didn't know how. I would always ask him to teach me how to play but I didn't know any of the chords and notes, therefore, I just gave up on attempting to play this new instrument. However, guitar is an elective that's offered here at Kennedy, so I decided to take the class. I noticed that my friend was getting better the more he practiced, so I decided to join the class to learn the basics and get started on this new journey. At first, it was difficult to understand the notes because I didn't have any musical background to help assist me for my own benefit. However, I began to focus more in class to learn the basics day by day. Overtime, I learned that you can't learn guitar in one day and you need a lot of practice to get better. I also discovered how progress is important to reach my end goal. I stayed on this journey to learn guitar because playing guitar is a special skill that I want to learn. n my free time or when I'm bored, I could play guitar while learning new and more songs to play. As a result, I will eventually and gradually get more advanced the more I learn. Another reason I stayed on this journey is because I want to want to challenge myself to do something I thought I could never do. When I was little, I always thought that I would never be able to play an instrument because it was too difficult to learn. Therefore, this is why I wanted to learn guitar in the Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 10. Personal Narrative: My Writing As A Writer During this spring semester, I have grown in many ways as a writer, and a student. I have started to realize, and accept the flaws that I have created in my writing. In the past, I never looked into my writings and saw my problems, and if I did, I did not accept that they were problems. In my writing pieces in the past, I was very hard–headed about what I thought was correct versus what was actually correct. I have also become More familiar with different formatting options on Microsoft Word to create a more professional piece or writing. However, figuring out all the parts of writing and making them work together is the most difficult part of writing. A writer can influence a reader in many ways using many different strategies. They may be influenced with emotion, logic, and experience. A main way of influencing your reader is to support your claims thoroughly. At the beginning of the semester, and through part of the semester, I would come up with a good main point, but I would lack Good supporting detail to my claims. After being in this class, I realize more that I need to come up with good supporting evidence to back up my claims. When writing, I have started to look at my writing in different ways. My knees were arched in a ninety degree bent, in the ready position as I waited for the gun to go off. The next few seconds were filled with nothing but silence as I was completely concentrated on what I was going to do and what had to be done. I let myself float in the world of my own. I was the only person in the world, above me was a beautiful dimmed sky that hovered over me. • 12. How To Write A Personal Narrative Essay The day I separated from my mother to live with my father in the United States marked the beginning of a downward spiral in my life, or so I thought. Coming from Vietnam at the age of seven, I experienced a cultural shock. For starters, I did not speak English, which made interacting with other children my age a difficult task. But to my advantage, speaking and knowing Vietnamese is an asset I have come to eventually appreciate. However, life at home and my relationship with my father or lack of one was hard for me to understand at such a young age as I was only reunited with him a week before I left Vietnam. I began to shield myself from this foreign world around me and found solace in our backyard swimming pool. I thought of my mother constantly. I always knew she was sick, but I never realized of what extent her illness had consumed her health. I distinctly remember the times he would ask for food and a blanket while recounting memories of his younger days as he held my hand. He was known for his carefree and jolly character, often saying, "why don't you shoot me already?" when upset. One day, I noticed George becoming weaker, and his charisma fading. His stories became mutters and then, silence. His wheelchair sat by the window, as George laid in his bed majority of the day. I wanted to do more for him, but I was only a nursing assistant. • 13. How To Write A Personal Narrative Essay From a very young age, I learned that one word held much more weight in my family than others: "money." My family's priorities revolved around bills and expenses, and the money that we were seemingly always lacking to pay them. My mother, who was diagnosed with severe obsessive compulsive disorder before my birth, was unable to work, leaving my father to support our family with his insufficient truck–driving wage. The stress caused by these financial issues, in addition to my mother's mental condition and my father's alcoholism, led to constant fighting in our household that ultimately caused my parents to separate the year before I began kindergarten. My brother and I stayed with my mother despite her condition. When I reached elementary school, my mother never cared very much about my attendance. In the negligent fashion that I became accustomed to, poor grades or failure to turn in assignments also held no consequences for me. Despite my bad attendance and the lack of parental authority in my early education, it was soon evident that I was academically gifted; I enjoyed learning and my grades had already begun to surpass...show more content... My classmates, though typically kind about it, could never truly understand the depth of my devotion to school. To my knowledge, none of them had grown up in the way I had, where every family decision was based entirely on money, where days were spent dreaming of a better future. As I began to consider college, I worried incessantly about the costs I would face and sometimes wondered if it was even a possibility. To this day, I am extremely thankful to my councilor for informing me that anyone can go to college, despite their circumstances. I remember wanting to try writing, although I could never fully convey the words in my mind onto paper and once in a blue moon when I was able to; only I understood what I wrote. It had fascinated me, and honestly frustrated me, that people could write these whimsical and arcane books that I'd held onto like a mother to her child. When I'd entered middle school it had been an unusual experience at first. I remember having spent all my cherished time in the library. I learn how to shape the body of writing, creating an outline and different ways of brainstorming. I still need a lot of help improving or developing writing skills. I have had a few struggling points in school, but everyone has those moments; no one is perfect, but everyone has that one point in time, whether it is school related or even in everyday life. My struggle point began during my freshman year of high school in my Spanish II class. Even though I had taken Spanish I, it failed to stick in my brain. So I began cheating on my tests, merely to breeze by with no remorse until one dreaded day I took the answers from the wrong person and completely failed my test. At that moment that is when I realized, cheating was not for me and it is the wrong thing to do, so I changed...show more content... I began changing my study habits; I found out that the best way for me to study was to read all my notes and handouts at least three times every day. I even re–annotated all my handouts every time I read it, in case there were some things that I may have missed the first time. As time went on I felt I needed more than just reading my notes so I began joining in study groups with people who were willing to help me with anything that I may have needed. I realized that meditation was needed to so I started going to the library just so I could find peace and quiet and actually be able to think at a better pace. I have learned that there are so many ways to study and research is another way that can be beneficial; therefore I decided to start researching things that related to my topic of study. My parent told me to plan a specific time to study when I am most alert that way I will not get tired quickly and that has helped me throughout my school years, I still have a certain time that I study and do my homework so I do not overwhelm myself. • 17. Personal Narrative Essay: A Day At The Beach I stretched my arms out and looked up and down the beach. Although I lived in Waikiki for years, it'd been far too long since I took a vacation, let alone the beach, since I'm dealing with neverending piles of school assignments and activities. As I strolled along the coastline I can feel the soft smooth sand beneath my feet. I was taken in by the soothing atmosphere that encircled me. I closed my eyes, letting myself absorb the blistering rays of the sun on a scorching summer day. The beach was oddly quiet for this time of that year, only a handful of people sunbathing. I didn't mind, I was going to enjoy myself. I headed out to the water after setting up my towel. The shock of the frigid water took my breath away and I was momentarily stunned. However, I quickly recovered; finding my body adjusts rapidly to the cold water. I waded a few feet into it before leaning forward and swimming out. I didn't dare to go too far though, instead turning to swim parallel to the shore. I was comforted by the sounds of the ocean; the rhythmic pounding of the waves represses all of my worries. I looked into the cloudless cerulean blue sky and see the perfection of life. Just when I was starting to get tired and wanted to go back to the shore, I saw something. Off the distance of the coastline, there was...show more content... Those who are young with energy and risk takers, revel in a hearty chase. That's one of those jobs requiring you to be cool calm and collected. The atmospheres are peaceful and then people work constantly. It's the opposite of my desired profession and personality. I'm the opposite of my career, or well it was until I met my instructor, Miss Young. She changed my mind about how I perceived the trade and what I could do with the skills once I completed. Was very instrumental in helping me obtain the necessary skills to make the most money in the field of Office work. I managed to get my typing up to the speed of over 60 words per minute. I learned all the processes of Windows Operating Systems, I even got a glimpse of Windows 10. Using...show more content... I loved learning. • 19. Personal Narrative: What I Learned In My Writing Throughout my writing this semester, I know where I struggle with writing and I have learned many skills to improve my writing . Also it will be all about all the activities we have done and how they have helped me with my writing. I will talk about the areas I struggle with and what I have learned in this semester. At the beginning of this semester, I was a very unorganised writer and I didn't use any evidence in my writing, as shown in the first essay I wrote for Artificial Intelligence. I did not prepare for the essay and I didn't explain the few evidence that I had put down. Before I turned in that essay I could have revised it before I turned it in because I had many spelling and grammatical errors. I really struggled with organizing my writing but, as the semester went on I have improved a lot more with my organization because my writing was all over the place.
