4. The Parts
• Cap
– Not directly connected to the body because the
water needs to be able to flow over and into the
base.
– It is necessary so that the water from the faucet
doesn’t just go straight to the drain.
5. The Parts
• Base
– Just a cylinder
– Open at both ends
– The water fills the bathtub around it and when it’s
filled to the brim of the body it starts to flow into
the inside of the body and goes into the drain.
– Directly connected to the base so the water can’t
drain until it reaches the brim
6. The Parts
• Base
– The base is very similar to most drain covers. It’s
made of rubber that will keep water from draining
and is wide enough to keep the body from tipping
over.
7. Products like it?
• There are bathtub overflow alarms that go off
when the water has reached the top but they
don’t stop the water from continuing to fill the
bathtub so if you’re out of earshot or can’t make
it to the tub you’re out of luck.
• Some bathtubs do come with overflow drains
already installed but I grew up with one that
didn’t have one so watching the water was
always a hassle. These drains are standard and
non-decorative and who doesn’t like to have a
stylish bathroom?!
8. Where can we take this?
• This product is made from plastic and rubber
so it wouldn’t cost much to make.
• It can be sold in different colors, designs,
heights, and could maybe even be
personalized for a slightly higher price.
• These different designs could range from
cartoon characters for a kid’s bath time to
more elegant designs to go with a
sophisticated bathroom scheme.
