The V&A in London is currently running an exhibition named 'Fashioned From Nature' until 27 January 2019. The V&A states that it is 'the first UK exhibition to explore the complex relationship between fashion and nature from 1600 to the present day'. Rapid Visual Media has had the pleasure of producing 3 videos for 'The Future of Fashion' which is part of this exhibition. The Future of Fashion explores how the fashion industry uses vast quantities of natural resources. We meet and film inventors, designers and companies that are making sustainable and environmentally friendly fabrics

2. • The first UK exhibition to explore the complex
relationship between fashion and nature from 1600
to the present day.
• This exhibition will present fashionable dress
alongside natural history specimens, innovative new
fabrics and dyeing processes, inviting visitors to think
about the materials of fashion and the sources of
their clothes.
• Rapid Visual Media was delighted to create 3 films
for the ‘Future of Fashion’ part of the exhibition. We
followed exciting new designers and companies who
are inventing new sustainable fabrics and textiles.

3. Bolt Threads
• Bolt Threads is a company based in California.
• They have developed a fabric that mimics the structure of
spider silk.
• It requires neither the polluting chemicals of petroleum-derived
materials nor the land, water and pesticides of conventionally
farmed fibres.
• In 2017, designer Stella McCartney teamed up with Bolt
Threads to launch the first fashion collection using the new bio-
engineered fabric.

4. Pulp-It
• Scientists and designers in the UK and Sweden are making a wearable paper!
• The fabric has a short life-span.
• It can be recycled or composted.
• The energy and chemicals used in production are less than other fabrics.

5. Diana Scherer
• Diana Scherer is an artist, designer and plant root weaver from The Netherlands.
• She trains the roots of plants to grow in intricate structures, creating a 3D textile.
• The pieces produced are not yet suitable to be worn, but hint at a potential,
more sustainable future in which we grow our own fashion in the ground.
