THE ROLE OF STUDENTS IN PREPARING A GOLDEN GENERATION
AS THE LEADER OF THE NEXT GENERATION
Written by :
MOH. GUFRON
When we talk about the youth in Indonesia, we often find in many articles and we
ourselves even witness and support the development of a nation. They are the hope of the
nation who will carry out the struggle for the sake of the brighter future of a country. At the
young age, youth have power to generate new idea to solve problems of a society. Suppose,
in Specific Street, there is a shortage of electricity. No one is interested to talk this matter to
higher authority. But, Youths of that street can make a community to talk this matter to
higher authority and complaint irresponsible officers and employees of electricity
department.
Similarly, they are at the same time, the hope of Islamic religion who will strive for
the sake of Islamic teaching in the next maintenance of the Islamic laws. We are as the young
generation, in this case as students who will safeguard the next generation at large from the
influence of destructive western lifestyle, who will be the leaders for the next, it was
mentioned as : (subbanul yaum, rijalul ghoddi)
Today is young, tomorrow will be a leader.
This statement encourages us to pay attention to the young’s existence in the future.
By knowing all the facts, we realize how important the role of the students that have to be
done in the future. The youth and students play significant roles and have a great potency and
energy that can be prided.
Brothers and sisters.
Let’s pay attention more, what happens in our surroundings at present. Free sex,
drugs, and HIV-AIDS become a custom in this country. The actors of them all are young
generation. Most of them always imitate what becomes “up to date” without filtering and
thinking before. And they never make balance between thought and desire, planning and
implementation and between ability and action. In addition, they do not preserve the
constitution of this country, and even the laws for us as a faithful nation. So how this
country’s future is, if most of them get a drop in a moral values.?
As the students, we have a great responsibility to the future of our nation. We are the
hope of this country. The development and the decline of this country depend on your steps
my brothers and sisters. And the victory and the destruction of this nation are on the hands of
next generation. It’s quite right what Mustofa Al-gholayain said in the book of Idhotun
Nasyi’in “Yaa ma’syarosyabaab, inna fii yadiikum amrol ummah, wafii aqdaamikum
hayaatahaa”
Consequently, we are the next generation of this country; we have to keep ourselves
by faith, beliefs and piety in facing the globalization and modern era. And we have to be
aware of conserving the constitution of this country and even the laws in our religion.
Moreover we are the students have obligation to study hard till we can reach our dreams.
We should not keep silent when we know the negative changes that happen in our
society because of globalization and modern era. As students we ought to become figures in
anticipating the negative effects of this modern world. Allah state in the noble Quran;
(Waltakum minkum ummatan yad’una ilal khoiri wa ya’muruna bil ma’rufi wa yanhauna
‘anil munkar, wa ulaaika humul muflihuun). So that, let’s hope for the best, to become the
public figures for our society, in order to we can color the social and cultural lives in
achieving a brighter futer.
Brothers and sisters.
At last, I want to conclude my explaination on this topic by remind us that being a
student is not just sitting still in college while listening to the explanation from the lecturer.
But, the last role of a student in accordance with what is mandated by the Tri Dharma
Perguruan Tinggi is community devotion. So that from this occasion, I want to invite we all
to come into our society. Because, they will not ask, how many your GPA is, but they are
waiting for our devotion.
