Near-death Experiences (NDEs) involve extraordinary perceptions reported by people who were clinically dead or unconscious. NDEs have two aspects - other-worldly perceptions that are scientifically unexaminable, and this-worldly perceptions that are scientifically examinable. Cases like Pam Reynolds, who had an operation to repair an aneurysm where her body was cooled to 60 degrees Fahrenheit and her heartbeat and breathing were stopped, reported perceptions during this time that are difficult to explain by hallucination or semi-consciousness. Some scientists argue NDEs point to the possibility of consciousness existing separate from the physical brain and expanding the frontiers of science, as physics evolved by confronting evidence that couldn't be explained class
