IL CASONE and LITHOS DESIGN present NUANCE:
six new textures made in Pietra Serena, designed by Raffaello
Galiotto, at the “150Y Italian Beauty” event by Roberto Semprini
The Concept NUANCE was born from the co-operation between IL CASONE, a
leading company in the sector of extraction and processing of Pietra Serena, and
Lithos Design, pioneer of a refined design applied to the natural stone transformation:
6 lithic textures carried out by numerical control machines, and therefore perfectly
reproducible, emphasize the aesthetic and tactile potentialities of Pietra Serena. The
six 80x40 cm. format models have been designed by the designer Raffaello Galiotto,
who has created a project able to exalt the light-shadow contrast, by animating the
surface and by creating infinite nuances of grey. Vello, Vena, Scorcio, Tartan, Risma
and Crine interpret the new trends of design matching the minimalist taste with a
rediscovery of materialism, exalted by veins, undulations, light and shadow games.
150Y Italian Beauty: An interpretation of the anniversary of Italy’s Unity through a
creative reading of the three colours of the Italian flag.
Green, the colour of nature symbolizing growth, harmony, will accommodate the
outdoor objects; White meant as purity, will be the place destined to body and spirit
care and Red, the colour of passion, will give space to the objects charged with
energy, linked to fire and movement. The companies selected to co-operate with the
architect Semprini are all characterized by a refined and innovative production level.
150Y Italian Beauty will not be only an exposition of design objects, but also a little
and accurate selection of Made in Italy excellences, from art to fashion, to the daily
objects able to become Italy icons in the world.
Attention to detail, commitment to innovation, revolutionary expertise: these are
the common features that highlight the joint (ad)venture of Il Casone, the leading
producer of Pietra Serena sandstones and Lithos Design, pioneer of the most refined
design applied to natural stone.
An ambitious project reflects these elective affinities: the designer Raffaello Galiotto
studied the expressive potential of this typical Tuscan stone and revealed its most
intrinsic and profound characteristics creating a collection of six amazing textures.
Thanks to the particular properties of this stone lighter and darker parts of its surface
create a third dimension, light and shade interweave in a manifold game of contrasts
and levels. The stone can express itself in every imaginable nuance.

Out e in-door, superfici verticali e pavimentazioni, retail
Sandstone of a bluish, grey colour, medium-grained, free of cavities, micro cracks and
similar defects Pietra Serena is a compact, durable but in the meantime good and easy
to process sandstone. That is one of the reasons why even in the past Pietra Serena has
been widely used in architecture. Etruscans built the walls of Fiesole, the Romans used
it in Florence to build the Temple of Mars and then the stone’s real triumph arrived with
the Renaissance and the masterworks of Filippo Brunelleschi.
The contrast between the grey of the stone and the white plaster became a canon
of Renaissance architecture. Michelangelo made use of this aesthetic feature in his
Laurentian Library.
Timeless in its natural beauty and infinite versatility, Pietra Serena is at a height of revival
in contemporary architecture too. Not at least because Il Casone, the leading company
in quarrying and processing this sandstone, has for many years now invested in the
promotion and wider knowledge of this stone, conferring enormous prestige and value
to Pietra Serena. The new quality of the range of Il Casone sandstones, their technical
performance and aesthetic appearance is confirmed by infinite applications and uses:
exterior and interior design, cladding of facades, floors and paving, all cut to size to the
most demanding specifications, including curved and rounded finishes. A classic building
stone with astonishing tradition and an amazing future.
