5. LJUBLJANICA – REKA SEDMERIH IMEN
The Ljubljanica is the continuation of several karst rivers that flow from the Prezid
Karst Field(Slovene: Prezidsko polje) to Vrhnika on the surface and underground in
caves, and so the river is poetically said to have seven names: Trbuhovica, Obrh,
Stržen, Rak, Pivka, Unica, and Ljubljanica.
Slivnica (1,114 m) is a peak southeast of Cerknica
on the edge of the plain defined by Lake Cerknica.
Warm air rises from the cave in the cold
winter months and condenses to form
mist, a phenomenon that contributed
to the creation of the local legend
about the Slivnica witches, traditionally
blamed for all misfortune by local
farmers from hail storms to various
ailments.
