Quark's expediton icebreaker Kapitan Khlebnikov retires in March 2012 as a passenger vessel. Quark is marking the occasion with a series of remarkable itineraries and special guests.
We’ll be going to the Ross Sea to see Emperors during the End of an Era program. Some past passengers will remember Frank Todd.
Those special moments that make each expedition unique.
Question you can expect – are we going to find a replacement icebreaker. Answer: there are only 4 Sorokin class icebreakers built. They are in use. Finding an icebreaker that can do what KK and her sister ships can do is very difficult.
No special guest – but we should have an Inuit Expedition Team member.
BAS used satellite imaging to take pictures of Antarctica. The guano stains of Emperor rookeries stained the snow to such an extent that the satellite images captured the locations of rookeries, known and new. Also, demonstrated that some that had existed no longer exist.
