Prathap Selvan founded Frutunes Food Products to connect farmers in rural Tamil Nadu with consumers in GCC nations. As a child, Prathap helped local farmers in his village with their crops and taught them how to increase their incomes. He went on to study computer engineering and business and started his career helping farmers market their produce directly to consumers. This experience inspired him to start Frutunes, which provides fresh agricultural products from India to GCC countries while also improving farmers' livelihoods.

Growing up in rural Tamil Nadu, Prathap Selvan,
founder and Chief Executive Officer of Frutunes
Food Products, remembers helping the farmers in
his own village. Prathap initially assisted the farmers’ kids with their
studies. He also taught the Tirunelveli Farmers how to work with
selective seeds and crop variety. He helped the farmers to move their
produce from Kalakad Village to Tirunelveli Town to Uzavar Santhai at
Maharaja Nagar in order to sell their produce directly to consumers,
increasing the farmers income by cutting out the middle men in the
distribution chain. Even at a very young age, he had the mind of an
entrepreneur.
Prathap Selvan went on to study Computer Engineering and now holds
an MBA degree in International Business.
Prathap started his career at Zeetaa Business Solutions Chennai. Before
he started his own business, he travelled to a village nearby to Chennai,
that is Siruvapur Village at Red hills. There Prathap bought fresh
vegetables for his apartment friends in Chennai. When he and his close
friend settled in Chennai, they soon began to long for farm-fresh
produce which was not available in the area. This prompted them to
start a fresh fruits and vegetables outlet in Chennai, where they sold
farm fresh vegetables under the name Real Fresh. Then Prathap came
up with the idea to start a venture that would provide urban citizens
with access to fresh agro-products while improving the livelihoods of
small-holder farmers and rural youths in the process. This is how
Frutunes was established.
