2. Location of Digha
I went to Digha which is
a town of seaside resort
in West Bengal. I had to
go to a district named
Purba Medinipur. I
discovered that it is in
the northern side of Bay
of Bengal. I found a low
gradient having a sand
beach. The beach is
shallow. This sea popular
is quite popular in West
Bengal.
3. History of Digha
I would like to talk about Beerkul, and that is the real
name of Digha. Warren Hastings named it in his
letters dating back 1780 and he had compared it with
Brighton of the East. In 1923, there was John Frank
Snaith who is a businessman of English origin. He
had popularized Digha. Bidhan Chandra Roy was the
chief minister of Bengal at that time and he had been
inspired to develop that spot. I saw an old church in
the Old Digha Main gate.
4. Tourist Attractions
I came to know that this is known as Alankarpur
Digha. When I travelled to New Digha, I found
Sindhur Tara. I also travelled to a park named
Amrabati Park. I had prayed for the welfare of my
family along with my loved ones. I went using a local
van rickshaw. I also went to Tajpur, then I went to
Odisa Border. Finally, I went to the Science City.
5. How to Reach Digha
I talked to a geography
student and he told me that
Digha has been located
at 21°38′18″N 87°30′35″E.
There is a 6 metre elevation
or 20 ft elevation.
I travelled from Kolkata
and found from meter
reading that it is 183 km or
114 mile. I went through
Mecheda. One of my friend
went from Kharagpur and
he told me that it is
234 km.
6. Different Ways of Travelling Digha
I found great hotels along with tourist lodges. I got
highway when I travelled from Kolkata. I heard from my
friend at Tamluk that there is a rail-link. I am excited to
share that the last time I went to Digha, I went via
Howrah-Digha Super AC express. I also went using
Tamralipta express in the second time. In the third time,
I went using Kandari express. My friends told me that
there are EMU locals which departs from Santragacchi.
They go through Mecheda and then Tamluk. These trains
are found to be running between Howrah and Digha. I
found from a local informant that Digha is located under
Contai Sub division.
7. Statistics of Digha
When I asked about police station to the local
people, they told me that there is Ramnagar I which
controls the police station of Digha. It comes under
CD block. The area is 3,153 km2. From a
statistician in Digha, I heard that the population is
35,054. When I went towards Digha Mohana, I
found the Digha Mohana Coastal police station.
8. Urban and Rural Population in Digha
I heard from the local people through interview that
93.55% of population under the Contai subdivision
inhabit in the villages. There is 6.45% of population
who reside in the city. In terms of urbanization, it
revealed that it is behind the Haldia subdivision and
the research studies show 20.81% of population
reside in cities.
9. Hospital in Digha
I was moving around and found that there is a
district hospital and it is located in Old Digha. The
residents of Old Digha have been interviewed and
they told me that the medical facility is great. I found
two hospitals. They are Sanjiban Hospital and Contai
Sub Divisional Hospital. Sanjiban Hospital is about
31 kilometer from Digha.
10. Buses towards Digha
If you want to go to Digha, you can get bus from
Dharmatala, Joka, Garia, Baruipur. You can also get
bus from Bolpur, Burdwan, Asansol, Siliguri,
Serampur and Baharampur. From Howrah, you can
go to Digha by bus. You can board a bus at 8:30 am
in Sealdah and go to Digha. You will get this route
from Sealdah. You will pass through Taltala,
Dharmatala, Wellington, S N Banerjee Road, etc.
11. New Digha Location
You can get "New Digha" and
it is approximately 2 km from
old beach of Digha. The beach
has been improved. I found
the beach to be clean and
there is proper maintenance.
A great place to visit is the
Science Centre. I found that
National Council of Science
Museums had built this
science city. You can get
plantations of casuarinas and
they are truly amazing! I went
to Digha gate. You can
observe fishing in Digha.
12. Marine Aquarium and Research Centre and
Chandaneswar
There is Marine Aquarium and Research Centre and
I heard from the guide that in 1989 , it has been set
up under the Seventh Five Year Plan. The Centre has
a goal and the target is to show marine biodiversity
of Digha. The researchers conduct research. A great
attraction of Digha is Chandaneswar where I found a
temple of Lord Shiva.
13. Chandaneswar
The distance of this temple
is 8 km from digha. This
temple is century-old and
Lord Shiva is prayed here.
It is between the border of
Orissa and Bengal.
Chandaneswar has been
regarded as a portion of
Odisha, In Chaitra, a
Bengali month, you will
discover an annual fair. If
you visit in that time, you
will observe half million
people approximately along
with the pilgrims.
