2. INTRODUCTION
Electric Bicycle is a bicycle with an
integrated electric motor that is used
for propulsion. It is also called as
E-Bike or Booster Bike. This bike is
build up with controller, rechargeable
super capacitor, which in turn
increases the efficiency and reduces
the human effort.
3. There is a great variety of e-bikes available worldwide,
from e-bikes that only have a small motor to assist the
rider's pedal-power to somewhat more powerful
e-bikes which tend closer to moped-style functionality.
E-bikes use rechargeable batteries and the lighter
varieties can travel up to 25 to 32 km/h (16 to 20
mph). While the more high-powered varieties can often
do in excess of 45 km/h(28 mph).
Despite these legal complications, the classification of
e-bikes is mainly decided by whether the e-bike's
motor assists the rider using a pedal-assist system or by
a power-on-demand one.
5. A super capacitor (SC) (also called
a supercap, ultra capacitor or Goldcap) is
a high-capacity capacitor with
capacitance values much higher than
other capacitors (but lower voltage
limits) that bridge the gap
between electrolyte
capacitors and rechargeable battery.
They typically store 10 to 100 times
more energy per unit volume or
mass than electrolytic capacitors, can
accept and deliver charge much faster
than batteries, and tolerate many more
charge and discharge cycles
than rechargeable batteries.
7. BLDC MOTOR
Brushless DC electric motor (BLDC
motors, BL motors) also known
as electronically
commuted motors (ECMs, EC
motors), or synchronous DC motors,
are synchronous motor powered
by DC electricity via
an inverter or switching which
produces an AC electric current to
drive each phase of the motor via a
closed loop controller . The controller
provides pulses of current to the
motor windings that control the
speed and torque of the motor.
9. Working of the e-bike
• The e-bike is run by a 24v – dc motor connected to the
back wheel , powered by a 24v Super capacitor battery
pack.
• There is a speed controller which is used to control the
speed of the wheel and to power other electronic
components used in the bike.
• The 24v dynamo is connected to front wheel , which is in
turn connected to an inverter which converts 24v(dc) to
230v (ac), at the power rating of 300w.
• The output voltage from the inverter is used to charge the
super capacitor battery pack with the help of an adaptor.
10. • The throttle is used to vary the speed of the cycle,
the power brakes are installed with a cut off switch
which disconnects the power supply to the motor
when the brakes are applied.
• Instead of a normal battery we are using super
capacitor battery pack which makes it more efficient
in terms of charging and discharging .
• Normally, traditional battery takes 6-7 hours to get
completely charged whereas super capacitor battery
pack takes less than 40 min to get charged
completely .
• The driven gear is smaller compared to the driving
gear to increase the rpm.
• This cycle can reach up to a speed of 35km/h.
11. Booster bike v/s conventional e-bike
BOOSTER BIKE
• Uses dc brushed motor
• Uses super capacitor battery
pack
• Charging time is 30-35
minutes.
• More efficient compared to
other batteries.
• Weight of the e-bike Is very
less.
• The speed of the cycle is
30-35 kmph and can take pay
load of 200kg.
• It has a dynamo which
recharges the battery pack.
CONVENTIONAL
E-BIKE
• Uses a 3-phase hub motor or
a bldc motor.
• Uses li-ion or lead-acid
battery .
• Charging time is 6-7 hours .
• Less efficient
• Weight is more .
• The speed is 25-30 kmph
and payload of 200kg.
• No dynamos are used
