Expanded PTFE is a lightweight, porous material with high temperature resistance from -240 to 260°C depending on the application. It has low water absorption of less than 1%, high compressibility of 45% and recovery of 12-13%. Expanded PTFE maintains a leakiness rate of 0.15 ml/hr for nitrogen and 0.02 ml/hr for furnace oil under pressure of 4MPa and 20°C. It has excellent chemical resistance except for highly fluorinating agents and can withstand pressures from full vacuum to 19MPa.
