1. The film Grave of the Fireflies, based on the story of AkiyukiNosaka is
intended as a personal apology to his sister.
The film is the real story of author Nosaka, who blamed himself for his
sister’s death. The story wasn’t trying to seek out a hero or a lesson to learn
about antiwar, how the war arises and affects lives of people. The war
destroyed home, mother, father of small children, who then have to look for
the support from their far relative or survive themselves on their own and
die. War causes death, famine, and hostility through Japan. Also, it’s a
humane issue, when orphans, who incapable of taking care of themselves is
being neglected by the society. They got beaten up because they steal food
when they were hungry and desperate.

Grave of the Fireflies summary
The Kobe bombing
Story of Grave of the Fireflies started when the tin of fruit drop drops. Seita
picks it up and open the lead of the in, releases the soul of Setsuko with
fireflies.
Seita is 14 years old, brother of Setsuko, who is 4. They live happily with their
mother until they lose her after the firebombing of Kobe.
Living with their aunt
They move to live with their aunt in Nishinomiya, who is cranky and mean.
Seita uses his entire mother goods to trades for food and share it with his
aunt. When the food goes low, his aunt starts mentioning of how lazy Seita
and Setsuko are and want them do something useful to eat the food she
makes.
Leaving the house
Seita and Setsuko decide to leave the house to the bomb shelter and live on
their own.
They find it is happier than living with their aunt.
Fireflies is their source of light and imagery for the happy time, when their
mother still alive.
Trying to survive
The food is out when they have nothing left to trace.
Setsuko notices Seita of her conditions, which starting her illness.
Seita goes steal whenever the village get bomb and everyone has gone to the
shelter.
Is it always wrong to steal?
Seita goes steal food from the farmer because he can’t stand to see Setsuko
suffering hunger. He gets caught and beat up by the famer

2. Seita then decides to cash out some money from his mom saving. He finds out
his father, who services to the Imperial Japanese Navy is sink under the
ocean. He quickly returns home to his sister, Setsuko. She experiences
hallucination, chews on the marble as thought it is the fruit drop. She dies
then.
