How to Hit Straighter Drives

As managing partner at Oficio Group, Peter
Trombetti has helped the firm expand into the
recruitment and placement of mid-
management to executive-level nonmilitary
engineering talent. Peter Trombetti is also a
golf lover and country club member.

Hitting accurate drives on the golf course can be a
challenge. The habit of leaving tee shots out to the
right can often be attributed to poor release. The
release of the golf club is the coordination of two
details: the unhinging of the hands and the rotation
of the forearms. Players who are leaving the ball to
the right are not rotating the club closed, which
means the clubface is open at impact. This creates
sidespin that makes the ball curve to the right. To
practice a proper release, players should take
practice swings with one hand and focus on rotating
the forearm through the ball. Properly rotating the
forearm through the ball will result in a square
clubface at impact and straighter shots off the tee.
