How to Cure a Slice
in Golf

As owner of GSL Advisory, Ed
Lichtig helps U.S.-based financial
planners get more leads. In
addition to his marketing work,
Edwin Lichtig is an avid golfer.
One of the challenges Ed Lichtig
and other golfers face is accuracy
off the tee. Consistently hitting tee
shots that bend to the right might
be due to the player not properly
releasing the club.

The release of the club includes
the coordination of two parts. It is
the rotation of the forearms and
the unhinging of the hands. When
a ball starts out to the right, it is
due to the clubface being left
open (pointing right). Failing to
rotate the club is one reason why
the clubface gets left open. An
open clubface creates sidespin
that causes the ball to curve right.

Taking one-handed practice
swings is a good way to get a feel
for a proper release. While taking
practice swings, it is important to
focus on rotating the forearms
and unhinging the wrists. This will
help the player to develop the
proper rotation, which will result in
a square clubface at impact and
straighter drives off the tee.
