A local community to aim at sustainable society by forest restoration and
environmental education. They founded “Itoshima Electric Power” to circulate
energy and economy within Itoshima City, and implemented “ITO Coin” using
PEACE COIN platform in 2020. More and more things and services are available
with ITO Coin in the city.

applied to various industries including education, medical care, and
nursing, and attracting attention as “Gamification” that is able to face

PEACE COIN supports the world-famous game event "Games for
Change (G4C) Latin America Festival," which supports the solution of
social and environmental issues through gamification. At the Eight
G4C Latin America Annual Festival held in Brazil in 2020, PEACE COIN
Token was provided to realize the ideas of the top five prize winners.
Games that capture the hearts of people of all ages are now a
satisfying preference for entertainment, they inspire social change
which other media are oftentimes not as open to. Having the same
purpose as G4C Latin America, "how to motivate people and make a

Use Case 04 Social Compass
Social Compass is a dream team of creators that contributes to solving
problems by visualizing and enlightening social issues and the SDGs,
which are difficult to express with words alone, in an amusing way
using the power of art and design. So far, they have been involved in
various projects such as the production of educational videos,
projection mapping and planetarium workshops on the themes of
education, transportation and environmental issues in Southeast Asia.
It is said that a community of related people is generated when a
project starts. Within the community, PEACE COIN is being used to
activate their communication, which leads to empathic and sharable
information transmission, and to creation of innovative and attractive
ideas.
What is interesting about Social Compass is that it not only conveys
accurate information to people, but also plays a role as a facilitator to
make things personal by creating something together. Most recently,
Social Compass has launched “White Canvas,” a platform for
discovering artists, and is trying to cultivate a new field for cultural
development in Cambodia, which is undergoing economic
development.
Solving Social Issues in Everyday Life

solve various social issues faced by developing countries, such as poverty, medical care,
and education. After graduating from Kyoto University of the Arts, the Representative

Use Case 05 100-year Tea Plant Project
The Portuguese island of São Miguel is the oldest and only tea-
growing region in Europe. At its peak, there were more than 20 tea
plantations on the island, but now only two survive. Many farmers
have switched to dairy farming, which has a higher market price.
It has caused groundwater pollution, changes in the island’s
environment, and impacts on fishing grounds, which is considered a
social problem.
For the future of the island, “100-year Tea Plant Project” has been
launched. Taking advantage of the unique climate of the São Miguel
Island, they are working to produce organic tea without using any
agrichemicals, fungicides, colorant, or preservatives. In addition,
instead of using cloned seedlings for short-term mass production,
they aim to create fields of long-life trees that will last for more than
100 years by germinating and growing them from seeds.
Although the tea leaves cannot be harvested for about five years until
the tea trees grow mature enough, you will soon be able to enjoy
Europe’s only organic tea from the São Miguel Island.

A project launched on the São Miguel Island, located in the North Atlantic Ocean,
which aims to produce sustainable tea plantation by producing organic tea using a

as well as creating new jobs to replace the island’s main industry, dairy farming.

Use Case 06 Forest for Life Project in Minamata
Minamata City is progressing as one of Japan’s leading environmental
model cities, overcoming its history of difficulties. In fact, Minamata is
a place of scenic beauty, surrounded by lush green mountains on three
sides except for the west. In recent years, however, the mountainous
area has been facing a shortage of farmers and an increase in
abandoned fields. This project aims to bring a solution to these issues
by creating a forest based on a “Food Forest” that lasts 1000 years by
regenerating and coexisting.
“Food Forest” means a forest where fruit trees, nuts, berries, and other
various fruit-bearing trees are densely planted to support the growth
of each and enable circular agriculture. Forest bird droppings are
converted to natural nutrition, and the variety of insects that live in
the forest suppresses pests. Such a well-balanced ecosystem leads to
the production of nutritious crops without harming the environment
and soil quality.
Now, a forest is becoming a filter that provides a bird’s eye view of
various issues such as unemployment and depopulation, which gathers
members to discuss what they can do for the future.
Create Forests for the Millennium Ahead,
Aiming for a Forest-centered Economy
The main operator is FOLKFOOD, a company that creates businesses focusing on things
which need to be restructured to adapt to the times. They started a project based on
Food Forest while global climate change makes lowland farming difficult. FOLKFOOD
is building an autonomous system by connecting their business to the unique industries
of Minamata and using PEACE COIN as a payment system.
Utilizing a number of abandoned rice terraces,
a plan for Food Forest is under progress.
