To whom It May Concern
Re: Mr Paul Tilly
I have known Mr Tilly, personally and professionally, since 1996 when we worked together over a period of five years
on the design, execution and publication of all aspects of the documentation required in respect of the portfolio of
corporate finance transactions under mandate to the Merchant Banking Division of Barclays Bank of Zimbabwe
Limited (“BBZ”), in my capacity as Senior Manager thereat.
BBZ’s Merchant Banking Division was established in response to Zimbabwe’s then ascendance as a favoured
Emerging Markets investment destination; its business was built around the development of valuable credentials for
material corporates which sought a listing on the Zimbabwe Stock Exchange and in support of their activities
thereafter over the period between 1996 and 2001. The clients were significant players and the teams supporting
their corporate finance initiatives included partners from the Top Four auditing firms, as well as international and
local legal advisors, taxation and PR specialists and the like. We became the preeminent merchant banking team, in
no small part predicated on our proven ability to deliver a transaction; critical to this was the demonstrable and
consistent ability to timeously and accurately execute deal documentation in compliance with regulatory and
statutory requirements to give effect to a matter and enable us to dock the credential and mandate value.
The nature of corporate finance is highly pressured, with tight deadlines, no room for error and little flexibility. Paul
conducted himself at all times in supporting our requirement to close out the deal documentation with the highest
level of professionalism; his valued and valuable contribution was such that he quickly became BBZ’s preferred
partner for this service. In this regard, he made a material contribution to the required level of accuracy and timeous
delivery for which our team became known and which won us repeat work over the tenure of our operation as
Zimbabwe’s pre-eminent merchant banking capability. Paul’s relationship management skills were also prized, more
particularly his exemplary management of highly sensitive confidential information and senior executives and
transaction partners, and greatly assisted us in building our business.
I have no hesitation in recommending Paul for any position for which he may be considered. I am pleased to act as
his referee and am contactable in this regard on +2783 800 5700.
Kind regards
Michelle Amyot
