- 2. Building an online business is not easy, especially
- 3. when you are on a very limited budget. As I come
- 4. in contact with more people, I realize that numerous
- 5. publishers and netpreneurs are overlooking some very
- 6. effective free advertising opportunities.
- 7. Examples of these opportunities are:
- 8. 1. Welcome letter for your subscribers - I subscribe to
- 9. tons of groups and ezines and am always disappointed
- 10. when I get the default welcome letter. Personalize it
- 11. by introducing yourself and letting the subscriber know
- 12. about your website/business. This is a crucial moment
- 13. in that you can start bonding/connecting with the reader
- 14. before they even get your ezine.
- 15. *Inform them of any specials you might have.
- 16. *Tell them your advertising rates and add a testimonial.
- 17. *Invite them to your site to utilize the free resources.
- 18. *Let them know your email so they can contact you.
- 19. *Use some of the space for ad swapping with other
- 20. publishers and their welcome letters.
- 21. *Add an affiliate product or program review.
- 22. 2. Goodbye letter for your subscribers - This is your
- 23. last chance to get this person back. Make it a good
- 24. one! ;-)
- 25. Thank them for being a subscriber and encourage them
- 26. to re-sub. I also have a little message in my goodbye
- 27. letter that encourages people to let me know why they
- 28. unsubbed.
- 29. Example:
- 30. Thank you for being a subscriber to the Bulletin.
- 31. I am sorry to see you go. If you could take a minute
- 32. to let me know why you unsubbed, I would appreciate it.
- 33. Please drop a quick note to (put email here)
- 34. Thank you.
- 35. By doing this you might be able to change their minds
- 36. and if not, you could find ways to improve your ezine
- 37. for the next subscriber. Remember, always send them
- 38. an appreciative thank you note as well.
- 39. 3. Email Signature - This simple but powerful method
- 40. of promotion is unknown to some. By using an effective
- 41. email signature, every time your email goes out to
- 42. someone, you have free advertising. Join several
- 43. discussion groups and message boards to utilize your
- 44. sigtag to the maximum.

- 52. You want to keep your signature fairly short - about
- 53. 6 - 8 lines. Many discussion groups will have a limit
- 54. to the number of lines you can have in your sigtag.
- 55. 4. P.S. - It has been found that a P.S. is very likely
- 56. to get read. Using a P.S. can be quite effective.
- 57. Make it short and to the point. A P.S. novel will more
- 58. than likely be ignored!

- 62. Then you would have your main message on auto-
- 63. responder. Do not just send them a sales pitch. Add
- 64. some useful information and resources that will
- 65. actually help the reader. This will get you more
- 66. credibility, which is extremely important if you want
- 67. more customers.
- 68. 5. Thank you page - An excellent way to get more
- 69. subscribers is to get together with a group of fellow
- 70. publishers and set up a group subscription page.
- 71. Every time someone subscribes to one of the group's
- 72. ezine, the thank you page will come up with a message
- 74. Thank you for subscribing to the Bulletin. Take this
- 75. opportunity to check out more quality ezines. Please
- 76. check the ones you wish to receive.
- 77. You would have each groups member's ezine listed with
- 78. a short description. This is a very powerful method of
- 79. gaining subscribers because the person is already in
- 80. a subscribing mood and will most likely check most or
- 81. all of the other ezines.

- 83. but simple can be most effective!
