2. We have been opening gates for Haitians
seeking advance degrees since 1962.
Entry Level Students climb the course steps to be
Engineers
Architects
Business
Managers
Executives
And Much More.
3. At Leconte U. Students can major in:
Civil Engineering
Electrical Engineering
Industrial Engineering
Architecture
Economics
Business Administration
And several other majors.
4. Poor investments in primary
education during the 1980’s result in:
High rates of illiteracy for
Haitians seeking to make a
change in their lives by
attending college.
So these students will be left
behind in the world of higher
education.
5. After the 2010 Earthquake Richard Leconte
University continues to be the bridge by
Providing Haitian students with a variety of degrees
in:
Bachelors of Science
Bachelors of Arts or
Associates Degrees

7. Historically all Haitian colleges struggled to prepared those
students to achieve because they lack the skills to handle
college material.
However going forward we would like to help even
those students to cross the bridge to their
respective destiny. So therefore we need a new
design.
A near
impossible
task.
8. What used to happen at Leconte University?
In the past, our University Program,
followed the below cycle.
Although it worked, Maxime Leconte

10. UNIVERSITY RICHARD LECONTE
We PROPOSE A Five Point Education Plan with a State of The
Art Facility that showcases the concept of students moving
through gates and bridges that we create to achieve
academic and career success.
11. The Leconte Five Point Plan
1.Pre Test via SAT or a version of it to measure aptitude.
2.College-readiness boot Camp with culminating product
3.Twenty-First Century Educators and University Infrastructure
4.Degreed Programming and Certification Courses beneficial to the Education
Ministry of Haiti and college student.
5.Internships hand-on that are beneficial to the graduating prospects, and the
Haitian Ministry Department of Labor.
12. Pre Test via SAT or a version of it, to
measure aptitude.
– Every student applying for admission to Leconte will be required to take the
SAT test.
– The SAT ( Scholastic Aptitude Test) is one of the best measures used in the
USA to determine if a student can handle specific and/ or general college
level work.
– The SAT will also serve the Haitian Education Ministry by establishing a bar
for secondary education to achieve. The skills in math and writing required
can be used by the Ministry for curriculum mapping on the high school and
middle school levels of public education. Based on student outcomes from
this test, Leconte U. will be able to make recommendations to the Haitian
education system on deficiencies in curriculum implementation on the high
school level.
13. College-readiness Boot Camp with
culminating product .
– It will be based on the rigor and focus found in institutions around the
world that produce military and political leaders in fast-track programs.
– Seeks to correct deficiencies in math, and language aptitude found on the
pre-test by our college applicants.
– Instills common values of Leconte University in the students and will teach
all students how to be a Master Student.
– Designed to help students transition from high school academics to real-
world competitive college learning.
– Increases success rate of every student attending college.
– Traditional learning interspersed with a strategic measure of student-driven
speeches, debates and displays via project fairs that show student mastery
of content.
14. Twenty-First Century Educators and
University Infrastructure
– Hybrid learning that uses traditional face-to-face teaching but requires
students to interface with computing and internet exchanges to access the
latest changes in technology and to develop their own electronic portfolios.
– Tiered learning academies with one Leadership Academy for students that
perform extremely-well after completing the Boot Camp and taking our
Leconte Post Placement Test.
– Students performing at different levels will be place in the certification
program that best meets their expressed individual potential.
– Student learning that is web-based and web-assessed
– Our Professional Development for the teaching staff that can be done
internationally via Skpe or other platforms.
15. Degreed Programming and Certification Courses
beneficial to Haiti, the Education Ministry of
Haiti and most importantly the college student
– Earthquake Engineering / Architectural Design Bachelor Degree (to learn
the latest wrap-around techniques used to preserve buildings) also to make
better safer building and roads for the future of Haiti
– Civil, Electrical Industrial Engineering Bachelors Program
– Civil Engineering Technician Associates or lesser Degrees
– Vocational Training and Certifications
– Certification programs in Polytechnics Careers that are short one-to two
year programs that will get the students into their occupation faster.
– Plus many of the earlier programs we will continue to offer as they are
needed
16. Graduated Internships are beneficial to the
graduating prospects, and the Haitian Ministry
Department of Labor.
– In the second year of the student’s learning they will be required at a
minimum to tour or shadow experienced professionals in the industry even
if it is in USA/ France/ or Canada.
– In the final year of a student’s experience at Leconte University they will be
required to do a short internship on a service project that is part of the
rebuilding of Haiti
– This integration with government workers and our state-of-the-art Twenty-
First Century students will keep the labor Department fresh with new ideas
via our students.
– Students will be able to have networking opportunities with hiring officials
as a result of these semi-paid internships.

• So that students will have access to the latest information in the
industry.
• So that students can practice and research
• Resources for the classes will be customized by the professors.
Twenty First Century
Educators
• Current staff development and pedagogy to help professors to
adapt to the changes in the industry and the needs of the students.
• Producing better teachers for tomorrow
Revamped Curriculum
• The old curricullums do not fully prepare Hatians for the rebuild of Haiti.
• Our new curriculums will center around the Mechatronics Engineering
Programs that are featured at some of the finest institutions of higher
learning from around the world.
19. PROGRAM & CONECPT
UNIVERSITY RICHARD LECONTE | Preliminary Ideas
Mr. Leconte’s desire is to create a university that improves students lives by preparing them to the challenges that faces current Haiti. The university is to have four main phases that are
translated to four main elements; “boot camp”, vocational school, college and Mechatronics. The main idea is to create what he calls a “bridge”. The bridge symbolizes the moment of
transition a students experience when fulfilling the boot camp phase and “crosses” over to the vocational phase.
To complete the picture, a water escape element is introduced where it resembles the goal for each student. The water escape is to be integrated within the site and to complement the
bridge concept.
Both the bridge and the water escape are the essence of University Richard Le Conte.
20. Two inverted L- like volumes creating a courtyard with an outdoor garden / amphitheater. The lowest volume is placed at the front of the site intentionally so the building remains “scale
friendly.” The sculpture is located at the highest point on site where also the bridging moment occurs. The “ bridge” is on both ground and second level where the two massing are at closest
symbolizing students achievement s of crossing to a new world.

vocational courses.
22. Bridge Programs at Leconte
These Programs allow the
students that successfully
complete College Prep Program
to join a Vocational Program
that is quick (just a few months)
. So the student can quickly go
to work making a descent wage.
The Vocational Programs have
courses within them that are
bridged into advanced courses
and degreed programs.

23. Two C-shaped-like volumes creating two separate courtyards, yet connected by a “bridge”. The water escape runs through the site at the area where both masses are at closest.
This composition defines building users where one mass hosts the administration and the “boot camp” classes while the other hosts the vocational school.

grasp.

28. The design calls for a cluster of building with a central radial axis to the heart of the University and the secondary and
service areas are scattered on site. Water feature is attached to the rear building and filters water through the site the
media center at the front is an inviting space with full height clear glass curtain wall and columns mimicking the palm
trees from the island. Bridging again from one space to another a progression in school to accomplish your goal.

30. The scheme is based on a grid system to organize the spaces the stairs on one side
with landing area large enough for gathering. The bridge across the water that runs
north to south of the property separating the approach and the building. First
bridge leads to admin and boot camp area. The second bridge follows to
Vocational and higher education. The final stage is a walk up to the far end of the
facility to MEGATRONICS. That building has a bridge that leads you to a very
ceremonial water sculpture.
