As we move from chapter 3 to chapter 4 of Ephesians we move from High Theology to Practical Theology. Our text today in Ephesians 4:1-6 deals with the practical concern about how to foster and extend unity in the church. In the course of this sermon we will see an interesting structure. In verses 4-6 there are seven occurrences of the word "one". We will also see that there is a definite Trinitarian structure suggesting that our unity as believers should be rooted in the tri-unity of God. We will also see that Paul presents a shorter version of the "Fruits of the Spirit" which help define the kind of character that creates a spiritual environment in which unity can grow.
