3. Energy demands vary on daily ,weekly and seasonal basis. TES is
helpful for balancing the supply and demands of energy.
TES is definds as the temporary holding of thermal energy in the
form of hot or cold substances for later utillazation.
TES system deals with the storage of energy by colling , heating ,
melting , solidifying or vaporizing a material and the thermal energy
becomes available when the process is reversed.
TES system for a particular application depends on storage duration
, economics ,supply and utilazation temperature requirements ,
storage capacity , heat losses and available space.

5. Thermo chemical heat storage
Sensible heat storage
Latent heat storage
Combination of LHES and SHES
6. In this type , thermal energy is stored by
virtue of heat capacity and change in
temperature
When energy is absorbed temperature of
storage material rises and when energy is
withdrawn temperature drops.
Based on storage media it is classified as:-
1)liquid media storage
2)solid media storage
3)duel media storage
7. Water is considered to be the most suitable
liquid media storage because
It is easy to handle
High density , good thermal conductivity
It can be used as a storage medium or
working medium
Control of water system is flexible
8. It is called packed bed storage
It utilises the heat capacity of a bed of loosely
packed solid material to store energy
Here energy can be used at low or high
temperature
9. Rocks are abundant , low cost, non toxic
High storage temperature are possible
No freezing or boiling problem
No corrosion problem
10. Storage volume is very large
High pressure drop takes place
Simultaneous charging and discharging is not
possible
11. In this both liquid and solid sensible heat
storage material are used
These solid and liduid material may be
combined in number of ways
One of them is to jointly use the bed rock and
water tank
12. In this energy storage
by virtue of latent
change of phase of
storage medium
The phase changing
material have higher
thermal storage
capacity
This type of system are
more compact then
sensible heat storage
system
13. Thermal storage of solar energy
Passive storage in bioclimatic building
Temperature maintenance in rooms with
computes or electrical appliances
Thermal protection of food
