2. Water your Lawn Wisely
• Many people believe that the more you water your
lawns the more essential it is for its health. This is a
wrong perception completely, majority of lawns only
need approximately 1 inch of water every week
including precipitation. Don’t overwater your lawns!
• To water your plants use sprinkler, it sprays huge large
drops and can easily help you maintain 1 inch of
moisture level per week. Install rain gauge to measure
rainfall your lawn must have received during the week.
If you have an established lawn, then the ideal time to
water it is between 5 to 10 am in morning, because if
you will water during afternoon, the water will
evaporate due to the heat of the day.
3. Mow the Grass till the Right Length
• When you mow the grass of your lawn, remember not
to shorten them up less than 2 to 3 inches. This ideal
length helps your grass to retain moisture up to 50%
and hence, minimizes the need to water them
repeatedly. Also, tall grass shades their soil and roots
and thus, somehow eliminates the cost of water,
reseeding and fertilizer that ultimately lowers your
lawn maintenance cost.
4. Don’t Over fertilize your Lawn
• We usually over fertilize our lawns with the market
fertilizers, however, with self-mulching lawn mower
and grass clippings, lawn can be naturally fertilized.
When you leave the grass clippings they naturally
decompose and the lawn receives enough nitrogen
that keeps it healthy. Hence, it saves you from
spending a significant amount on fertilizer.
5. Kill Weeds Wisely
• If you have a small to medium sized lawn, you can
then prepare a mixture of vinegar and food-safe dish
soap at home yourself and fill them up in spray bottle
and directly sprinkle on the weeds. This will minimize
your lawn maintenance cost, as you shall be saved
from buying expensive insecticides and pesticides.
• However, if you have a huge lawn, then you should
take assistance from licensed lawn care service
providers, who are qualified to work with toxics. If
there services are good enough, then signing an
annual lawn care contract will not cost you much.
6. Reconsider your Lawn Mower
• You can significantly minimize your lawn maintenance
cost by choosing a manual push mower over a gas-
powered mower for your lawn. Manual push mower is
affordable and requires little maintenance, in contrast
to the gas-powered one.
