Competition
We love our ideas and we should. You have
recognized a need or had an inspiration for a great
design, but it is important to realize that you may not
be first to market. You should learn from what is
already out there. Do your research and look at the
competition carefully.

Technical Designs
A sketch on a napkin is a great way to start, but your
factory will need more than a rough drawing to make
your shoes correctly. You may need someone to
create a technical drawing of your shoe design with
specifications on materials and colorways.

Materials
There are tons of materials out there and just saying
you want “leather” leaves a lot of room for
interpretation. Be as specific as you can. Your factory
will help you with understanding material options, but
do some research to speed up the process and help
them get your samples made correctly.

Quality
Choose a level of quality that fits your market. If you
want high end luxury manufacturing, then be
prepared to pay more for it. Be clear about whether
your customer needs that level of quality or if they
are interested in a more affordable product. Provide
reference shoes to your factory to help them
understand your expectations for quality.
