Abahlali baseMjondolo Press Statement
Meetings in Newcastle and Mpumalanga
Our movement continues to expand into different parts of the country.
Today we are holding important meetings in Volksrust, Mpumalanga
Province, and in Newcastle, in KwaZulu-Natal.
In Newcastle we will screen the award winning popular documentary
about our movement, Dear Mandela, from 7pm to at Osizweni branch and
continue with political discussions till 10 pm. That discussion will include
an important issue raised by the ๏ฌlm - repression by ANC structures and
the police. We will also continue our ongoing process of discussing the
land question with all our members in all our branches,
The family of the chairperson in Osizweni branch has been threatened
since last year. The ward councillor has made it clear that Abahlali will not
exist in the area. Those who are members of Abahlali are often not given
services. We have prepared for this meeting carefully in order to secure
the safety of our members.
Regardless of the repression and attacks that we face we will continue to
build the power of the oppressed through democratic organisation in order
to ๏ฌght against the injustices that continue to impoverish the majority of
the people in this country.
