Dr. Satyam Panchal currently works as "Adjunct Professor" in the Department of Mechanical and
Mechatronics Engineering at University of Waterloo (UW), Ontario, Canada. His research is
focused on thermal management of lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles (EVs) and hybrid
electric vehicles (HEVs). His current research is on Ford Escape EV modeling and the project is
supported by Transport Canada. He is also actively working on the research area of “lithium-ion
battery thermal modeling, degradation modeling, electrochemical modeling, and CFD modeling.
He also worked at Green and Intelligent Automotive (GAIA) lab at UW on battery pack testing and
modeling.
He is a member of Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) in Canada since 2016. Since last 9 years,
Dr. Satyam has been active in a number of research programs at the University of Waterloo. He
has he has published more than 25 refereed articles in highly reputable international journals. His
Ph.D. work was in the area of experimental investigation and modeling of lithium-ion battery cells
and packs for electric vehicle. His master’s was on
Dr. Panchal has outstanding academic credentials from different universities including the UW,
where his academic achievements were recognized by numerous awards including the Ontario
Graduate Scholarship (OGS), and the President’s Graduate Scholarship, David Johnston (Governor
General of Canada) Graduate Award, the James and Elise Deveitt Graduate Award, and the Walter
Metzger Memorial Award during his Ph.D. and MASc at the UW, Canada. Additionally, Dr.
Panchal was also an excellent teacher and won 5 awards in consecutive years for teaching
excellence at UW.
