Henri IV was born on 14 December 1553 in Pau and he was killed in Paris on 14 may
1610. He had a Calvinist upbringing. On 1569 at Louis Condé de Jarnac's death, Henri
de Navarre became head of reformed party. He was 15 years old. On 1572 Jeanne
d'Albret and Catherine de Médicis decided to marry Henri de Navarre to try a
reconciliation between catholic and protestant. He was king of France between 1589
and 1610, his name was Henri IV.
The edict of Nantes is a document of
tolerance signed in 1598 by Henri IV, in
which the King of France recognizes the
freedom of worship to Protestants.
This is the end of thirty six years of
religious war.
