Tidal power harnesses the energy from tidal movements and has several advantages as an energy resource. The tides are driven by the gravitational pull of the Moon and Sun and provide a reliable source of power for around 10 hours each day when the tides are moving in or out. Tidal power stations could be built in estuaries where large tidal ranges occur, such as the Severn estuary in the UK. Once constructed, tidal power stations have low operating costs since they do not require fuel and have minimal environmental impacts compared to other sources like fossil fuels. However, tidal power is only viable in select locations with suitable tidal characteristics and may impact local wildlife habitats.

4. Introduction
• The tide moves a large amount of water twice each
day and provides quite a lot of energy
• There are about 8 sites in Britain where tidal power
stations could be built for example - the Severn
Dee, Solway and Humber estuaries.

6. Advantages- (cost)
• Once you have built the tide turbine, tidal power is
free which means it is a very cheap resource
• A key advantage is that it is cheap to maintain
• Offshore turbines and vertical-axis turbines are not
expensive to build

7. Advantages- (Environmental)
• It does not have a bad output onto the environment
since it produces no greenhouse gases or other
waste
• Also good for the environment, offshore turbines and
turbines do not have a large environmental impact.

8. Other Advantages
• It requires no fuel
• It’s production of electricity is very reliable

9. A few Disadvantages
• Unfortunately ,it only provides power for
approximately 10 hours each day, when the tide is
actually moving in or out.
• Only a few estuaries are suitable to build the tide
turbines
• It may have a negative impact on wildlife for example
it may damage habitats for wildlife.
