► Two major religions in the
south:
Catholic & Baptist
► Father’s side is Catholic,
Mothers is Baptist
► Mother is a practicing
Baptist and still follows
some of the tradition

4. Push Factors
► Lack
of employment due to Jim Crow laws. Felt that
he could make more money elsewhere .
► Poor healthcare .
► Family Left
► Social Unrest

5. Pull Factors
► Better jobs
for both in California and in Chicago
► Could better take care of family.
► Better doctors in California.
► Calmer
► Family In California

6. Economic Sectors

Grandfather worked in the secondary sector on the
railroads until he lost his sight.
► Grandmother worked in the tertiary sector as a house
cleaner.

7. Internal Migration

Started in Louisiana, Later
Moved to Chicago
► From Chicago to Sacramento
► From Sacramento to Carson
► From Carson to Chino Hills.

8. Conclusion
► I learned a lot more about my family than I thought I
could. Most of the information was all completely new
to me.
► Also with seeing other peoples presentations, it’s very
interesting to see that most people have similar
reasoning for moving and settling in California.
